Hi Guys,

I've spoken to Bookatrack regarding possible discounts and the answer was yes if we pay in one transaction, so thats no problem.

I suggested Donington as a venue as we all know how to get there however I know this could be a treck for some. Maybe a north and south venue would be best ? Min number for the discount is 10.

Over to you lot.

It seems obvious that there are not enough people willing to make a forward commitment in order to arrange an M Coupe trackday. In fact, even mixing it with other makes of car, it just doesn't look do-able

I am doing Silverstone GP circuit on 14th June costing £299 for the day. The format is 3 sessions per hour i.e. you do 20 minutes then come in for 40 minutes to check the car over/refreshments/watch the others on track, then go out again. Arrival 8.30./9. Finish 5.

Have used www.trackdays.co.uk before at Brands Hatch and they are well organised. Will give you tuition from the passenger seat for £30(?) if required. It's a great day out and if you have not trackdayed before then you will learn more in one day about the car (and yourself  ) than you will driving on the road for a whole year.

Typically, other cars range from Elises to Porsches, Caterhams, Honda Type Rs, TVRs.

If anyone is interested (and I am not holding my breath), then get your credit card out and do something about it.

I can show you the ropes but it is well organised so you should be okay.

This response is pretty disappointing, and surprising to be honest - just out of interest is there anyone who hasn't responded who is prepared to let us know why - whats stopping people :?:

If we can find out whats turning people off maybe we can get it sorted

I'm definitely up for a track day in my MC and I may get someone to bring my e30 m3 along too if its before end of July. I have 2 friends who want to come along in their own cars as none of us has been on a track day yet. I'm fine with bedford as it only up the road but don't mind travelling a bit.

Well you asked for a response to why such a low response. I can only feedback with my own reasons. I am concerned about damaging the car, to find out more about the car, you have to push it fairly close to the limit and that is, in respect to both the car and driver. Pushing to the limit is not a issue for me, as I have done this a number of times in a Go Kart. The difference is, the car is my own, the potential cost of replacing tyres, brakes etc is not something I want or indeed can afford. I now all this sounds a bit boring, but it is a honest answer. To go on a track day and trundle around without risking any damage, is just a waste of time in my book. Sorry, but you did ask.

I, too, would been keen to do a trackday (provided I can get the requisite weekend off). As for the costs involved, I would plump for the budget variant. So what if the pit facilities and the name aren't up to much? Provided we have tarmac, corners, run-offs and some sort of control on who's there, I'd enjoy a bimble round anywhere.

And as for damaging the car goes, I have only done one trackday and I reckon you are more likely to drive into something/be driven into on the public highway. People were so paranoid about hitting each other that overtakes involved about 60ft laterally between the cars.

One advantage of a Coupe (or Coupe/Roadster) trackday would be that everyone will be travelling at more or less the same speed. You don't have the worry of collecting a 106 or being collected by a GT3.

I'm sure this has been though of, but would it be an idea to try to combine the day with a Roadster forum? That might improve numbers.

PeteS - I see what you are saying but s longer track such as Donington wouldnt take too much of a toll on your car especially on the National layout. :D

Broccers, Donington great for me. Also, should be not too far for most other people around the country, if they are really interested.
Therefore, NOW, get a provisional date from Bookatrack and prepare to be underwhelmed by the response (please, please, please prove me wrong).

How about Fri 24 June ? Johnny (owner of bat) says we can choose from the calendar.

If you and Ben can do this date then thats only 7 more needed - any takers ?

We just need 10 for the discount - that can be anyone as long as we all pay together - the z3mcoupe account is just for that use.

Croft BDD
Monday, 25th July 2005

Please note the revised date.
back to the news page

This is the tenth aniversary of the first BMW Car Club Better Driving Day at Croft Circuit in Yorkshire.

25th July 2005 is a special day for Nick Wright, who is the man who does all the work, the North East Region and the club as a whole. We wish to celebrate the aniversary in a big way.

Anyone who has any good ideas as to how we should go about it is asked to contact myself or Nick and tell us about it.

It is a long time since Nick booked the circuit using his own cash and then contacted tha lads and said 'Please come and help me get my money back'. He always had a silver tongue, as I found out when he persuaded me to become chairman of the region.

They came, and he did. Since then, the support has been there every year, with just the occasional drop in numbers.

Prices for this year are to be announced yet, but are believed to be between £130 and £150 depending on numbers. The more who come, the cheaper it will be. So get your diaries out now and mark the day. Better still, contact Nick and order your place. Do it now!

Howard Walker
Chairman
North East Region

I can understand peoples concerns these cars are expensive but they were built to be driven,
i attened many track days most are well run and instruction sometimes free.

If we can find out whats turning people off maybe we can get it sorted

Last year ZZZEMMCO and I organised 3 different meetings in the Cotswolds. These meets are FREE and the maximum attendance was 9 MCs. This year ZZZEMMCO, Steve and I organised a Welsh Weekend meeting which was attended by 6 MCs, again, this was FREE (other than over-night accommodation)

Most people who have attended one of these 4 meets has attended at least 2 of them, which, to my mind, tells me that most participants who have experienced one of our meets KNOWS that they are unlike anything else that they have ever attended with other motoring groups and are willing to come back for MORE of the same :!: Our meets are certainly NOT conoys designed to turn the head of Joe Public. They are discrete driving experiences to savour.

So, yesterday, Steve and I were discussing the reason why more people don't come to our meets, and we just couldn't come up with the answer. Not wishing to be immodest , but as any one who has ever attended one of our meets will tell you, they are planned like military operations, run like clockwork and the routes we use are just the BEST public roads for the MC in the UK. Our meets are NON-COMPETITIVE and there is absolutely no pressure on anyone to drive beyond their limits. The less experienced drivers will gain great experience by driving on public roads in company with guys such as ZZZEMMCO and Steve (2 of the best amateur drivers you will ever come across) and we all meet and learn from each other. The less experienced performance car owners will soon learn the way to "read a road", the right braking points and lines to take around corners etc. by driving with such skillful drivers which in turn will improve your overall driving ability and help you get as much enjoyment as possible from your P&J.

Alternatively, do others think that they are TOO good a driver to be bothered with such meets and that the only real test of self and car is at a track?

Personally, I have enjoyed my MC ownership far more by being involved in the meets we have had, and I have had the additional pleasure of making friendships with and driving many recces with ZZZEMMCO and Steve in preparation for the meets and I look forward to MANY more shared driving experiences with them and others.

The reason why I have not expressed an interest in a track day is not that I think I am too good to participate or that I wouldn't learn anything from the experience. Instead it's because I already have permanent access to a huge network of brilliant and relatively quiet twisties from my front door to get to anywhere and I know where to go to have fun for free.

Now, why don't more of you guys come to our meets :?:

Ben,

At our Welsh weekend we had a 2 day route of more than 320 miles of roads of that calibre and BETTER :!: ( just trust me :!: )

We're going to have a full re-run of the entire Welsh weekend route in September, we're just trying to fix the date amongst the previous participants, before we ask for a few more to join us.

exdos--Said like it is!!!!!!!, with one added ingredient--YOUR motivation :D

Driving on Track and Road, compliment each other like Car and Driver.
ALL drivers should make the effort to tryout their car and themself on a Circuit, in a much more forgiving world than the one they drive each day

Doing this-- gives you a far better understanding of what your Car will do in much quicker situations, and how you react to them, great experience for when on road driving "usually" at slower speeds , and to the highwaycode.

The recent "Creme da la Creme" police driver Honing his skills , highlights the point that WE need to keep our reflexes and attention fine tuned for to-days conditions , instead of all the restrictions sending drivers Off to sleep.

Having a driving meet organised. is a great way to stay alert and keep those reactions at 10/10ths, while many others are at 4/10ths.It seems a great pity that Other drive meets have not "happened" in other area,s ---there ARE some Great routes Still waiting to make YOU come Alive n Drive-- from the West Country to Scotland to Yorkshire +++
Come on Drivers !!!!!!! get started-- and you will receive a can of exdos motivation :D

I am signed up for the 'Highlander' meet in 2 weeks time http://www.z3mcoupe.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=2228. The roads are excellent so should be brilliant drive, there are 3 ZM Coupes and 3 ZM Roadsters going as well as various other Zs and a 120d  .

I will gauge interest in something 'way up North' later this year.

Hi Don,

It would be 325 miles from Edinburgh to our meeting place and 300miles from our finishing point back to Edinburgh. Our route is just over 320 miles which is covered in 2 days.

I used to live in Edinburgh for 5 years and so I'm familiar with the roads in that part of Scotland and believe me, the roads on our route are much better than most of of what you have in your part of the UK. Martlet, whom I believe you have already met on your last Scottish Z meet came on our Welsh weekend and one of our Cotswold meets last summer, and I believe that he is attending your next Scottish meeting. Ask Martlet about the route in Wales when you see him. It would be absolutely brilliant if you would come and join us for an M Coupe exclusive Welsh meeting in September- it's about the best fun you can have with your kilt on :!:
