Probably head unit only as I already have the HK speakers.

The standard HK kit can be improved upon tenfold Im led to believe (I have this too, while its loud I can see room for improvement in quality)

Basic package is H.U. sim to this inc SatNav

The price is a lot less depending on numbers.

They even look standard which, for me, is a massive bonus.

i have the becker sat nav unit, the best £400 i have ever spent!!!
you can get them on ebay for £350ish now for last years model and about £500 for this years!
i would never buy anything else its made my HK anyway well harman/becker

http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_root/index.jsp?language=En

the speakers maybe might want some more bass in the back, im to lazy to take them all out would'nt mind paying someone though!

as for speakers infinity's are the best i have ever used, they were 6x9's but the sound was soooooo good!!!

Don

Looks good, I had been thinking about a Nakamici 400 head unit to get some decent quality http://www.raysmith.co.uk/index.php?manufacturers_id=26 will take a look at the Becker, like the idea of navigation built in :) .... does this require a small extra aerial on the roof :? ?

BEN
26-04-2005, 11:03 AM
no, nothing on the roof there is GPS which sits on the dash its about 3x3cm's
and thats it!

I finally have the ipod linked up so the nav cd just lives in there!

The best thing about the unit is the radio instead of having to find stations to listen to it finds all avaliable stations and lists them! I live in the sticks and it finds a good 20 stations, although some of them are readio 2/3 & classic!

Over the years and in my real youth (god how old do i sound!) i have had 1 sony, 3 pioneers, and one kenwood!
and this is the only piece of kit worth having! Don't even bother with any others!
HONEST!

So do you have to run a cable over the front of your dash or is there some neat way to route it through the vents or something? I have an IPOD too so would be interested on how you hooked that up.

no, i remember this one coming up in our last conversation about sat nav units.
that is the only down side, but speed cameras are not that hard to see its the unmarked pigs i get worried about!

my ipod kit should be here in about 45 mins when its all in ill take some photos!
the gps lead is tucked away at the bottom of the windscreen, really easy to do, the only pain is to hide all the leads (nav & pod) i have taken the glove box out, only stress with that is i now have to go and buy some black screw covers from BMW no biggie, just my lack of skill with little fiddlie things!

maybe this one?!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=75327&item=5769480358&rd=1

this is the new one, they now do one with bluetooth built in for the phone, wish i had that one, but its £800 on ebay! bit pricey!

Don

The Bluetooth model 7945 looks class, never had anything decent to sort out my mobile... at £800 it's a bit pricy (double the cost of the non-bluetooth ones).

i will post photos of my wonderful install if the f**king kit ever arrives!
5 f**king weeks! factory problems my arse!

Hi guys,
It was my goodself that contacted Broccers about these deals - we can do pretty much anything, but I could do with an idea from you guys as to what you would like!

The Becker/HK traffic pro 2005 model is a great unit and amazing value for money, and this alone will be a marked improvement over the factory unit, but even those of you with HK systems would be amazed at how much better the car would sound with upgraded speakers, amp and a small sub system.

Can I get some feedback as to what you guys would be interested in and I'll put together some package deals?

Due to the fact that a decent audio system is probably 50% kit and 50% install dependant, we would clearly prefer that the upgrades where carried out by us at our showroom in Rickmansworth, Herts, but I appreciate that due to geographical constraints this might not always be possible.

Cheers

Chris,

I am interested in a Becker head unit, the 2005 Traffic Pro 7820 (gone off the 7945 due to cost... it seems to be double the price of the 7820.... Bluetooth and MP3 is not worth that much!). Think I would upgrade the head unit first then see how it goes, I know the HK is not great quality sound but it is pretty loud without distortion at high volumes which is handy as the cabin in the ZMC is pretty noisy anyway! I don't expect or need superb audio quality in my car, reserve that for my front room... when driving hard the stereo is normally off so I know what’s going on with the car!

As for geography, I’m in Scotland and don't think I’d be making a trip south for a head unit install, would probably try to bodge it in myself :? !!

Cheers.

i tried that myself and still have no nav on it cos the iso lead that i have doesnt join up to the electronic speedo!

So Chris my only real question is can you source an iso for the head unit so i can just clip it straight in, also i would be interested so see if you can make some pods for the front big enough for 6x9's to fit in, really want some infinities again!!

it does, it runs on both!

The sat nav needs a speed pulse to allow it to carry on working if the GPS loses it's connection. Pretty sure that there is a speed pulse wire in the standard MC loom even if it isn't connected up by default - see if you can see a black and white wire in the factory loom.

I have one of the Bluetooth units lined up for my X3 as it really is an awesome piece of kit - full voice activated dialling (ie you can just say 'telephone 0898 50 50 50' and it dials - from anyone's voice too) and the navi unit is faster than even the Traffic Pro high speed.

BEN
27-04-2005, 09:19 PM
any ideas on the pods for bigger speakers?
or something for the rear speakers?

Prestige Audio
28-04-2005, 01:06 AM
No need at all for bigger front speakers, or rear speakers at all.

The best way to get decent sounds into an MC is to fit some high quality 5.25" component speakers in the factory locations, with plenty of sound deadening, an 8" sub in a small sealed box, all run from a nice 4 channel amp - leave the factory rear speakers in running from the head unit for a little rear fill if you want.

Sounds absolutely superb - the MC is a pretty good car for sounds and keeping it simple is the key.

BEN
28-04-2005, 01:10 AM
sounds a bit pricey?
i have done the whole subs and amps thing before i spent £1200 on my first car!
was good but i have much more important things to spend that kind of money on, tyres and TRACK DAYS!!!!
to be honest i only want to change the rear speakers cos they are shite!

Prestige Audio
28-04-2005, 11:05 AM
Rear speakers are a total waste of money - believe me!!

If you have decent front speakers (ideally amplified) then you really don't need them - bit like going to a concert and sitting with your back to the stage - sound should come from infront!

What is your budget and I'll advise on the best solution.

Broccers, I take it this group buy is a no-go?

I see the Becker 7820 (2005 model) for £449 and i've been quoted £100-150 to fit.... seems a bit steep for fitting or am I out of touch with such things??? Prestige, can you get them for a better price... would rather give you the business if I go ahead??

that fitting price is well off! it will take you about 20 minutes to fit!
i can talk you through the hole thing the only thing i am having problems is the iso for the speedo, but thats being sorted now by autoconnects.co.uk

I was planning to offer the Becker unit at £449 fitted - if we do this as part of a package then the overall cost comes down a little.

Will put some deals together next week and post them up.

OK, so now I've got a problem. I'd previously convinced myself that I wasn't going to upgrade, and I was going to see if I could buy an extra docking sled for my trusty Empeg (original and still the best in car MP3 player - sadly discontinued) on the grounds that I'm not spending money on anything that can't hold several gigabytes of MP3s.

Now I find out that the 7945 can take compact flash/microdrive cards, and you can get multi-gigabyte microdrives and suddenly spending lots of money that I don't have on ICE looks like a good plan :-)

Chris - have you had a chance to play with the MP3 playback on the 7945? Is it any good? i.e. can you browse directories and playlists etc., or does it just play everything that's on the drive?

Also, with the Becker units in general, can you use the MC's existing HK amp or would we need a separate amp / the HU's internal amp? In the long run I want to upgrade the amp and speakers, but my overriding requirement is that it remain totally stealth. Previously I'd determined that there simply wasn't enough space for a different amp unless you ditched the CD changer - which I'd be prepared to do if I had a decent MP3 player up front.

Paul,
The demo 7945 arrived today so it will be going in my car this week, so I will report back as soon as I have had a play about with it. The voice control of the navigation and bluetooth kit is awesome - works far better than any system I have ever tried in the past.

Broccers,
Can you tell me if this is a "face-off" unit? If so count me in on this deal. If not, then as I leave the ZMC on an open driveway I'm concerned it'll go walk about.

If it moves ahead I'd obviously like to know the final price for unit + fitment (if it differs from £449). I have the HK speakers, 6 CD changer and business RDS head unit. I'm interested in the 7820 unit, the 7945 is a little out of my budget.

Keep me posted.
Thanks

Right chaps - apologies for the delays but we have been stupidly busy recently (which is all good!).

Putting together any audio upgrades is rather difficult as some of you already have HK systems, and upgrading these is different to upgrading a non HK car obviously.
I need to get at least 5 people interested to get the prices below - I suspect you might be able to find some of them cheaper online somewhere, but we are a specialist retailer who offers a liftetime warranty on all of our installations, and we install the units to the highest possible standard and give you a quick 'idiot's guide' training session when you collect the car.

Sat Nav Head Units
Becker Traffic Pro High Speed - £429 fitted (or with free postage)

Becker Traffic Pro Bluetooth - £979 fitted (or with free postage)

Audio Upgrade for non HK cars
This will need an aftermarket head unit to work properly - either of the Becker units listed above would be suitable, or we can offer good prices on any 2005 model Alpine unit.

Upgraded front speakers
Diamond Audio D351i - rrp £199

Amplifier
Diamond Audio D3 400.4 - rrp £479

Subwoofer
Diamond Audio D3 8D2 - rrp £149

Custom fibreglass subwoofer enclosure and amplifier installation trimmed with stealth panels for security - rrp £750

Total rrp - £1577 plus HU

Z3M deal price - £1150 (plus HU - Alpine 9847R is great value and can be added for £169)

Upgrade for those with HK system
If you prefer to keep the standard HK sub box amp rack, we can modify this to give much improved sounds. Ideally this should just be removed and the above items added instead, this way you can put the car back to standard, but if you do want it modified, we can offer the following.

Upgraded front speakers
Diamond D351i

Amplifier
Diamond D3 400.4

Subwoofer
JL Audio 6W0 in modified and reinforced HK sub box

Total cost for this option will be £1000 (plus HU)

We can also offer hardwired gatso devices, laser jammers etc etc - all installed to the usual Prestige standard!
We have just done a satnav group deal for a 350z forum and the 6 takers have all been over the moon, so whatever you want to go for, rest assured, it will kick ass!

Other suggestions aside from audio are below:

1.) Origin B2 (maybe with laser jammer). We have been installing lots of these lately and I consider it to be the market leader at present. We securely mount the cradle, hardwire the power and hide the GPS antennae so it all looks nice and neat. RRP for these is £429.95 (with sod all margin!) and we usually charge about £80 for installation. The jammer is £399rrp and another £120 for installation.
If I can get a good price on this would anyone be interested?

2.) Front and/or rear parking sensors. Not sure if all zed's come with this or not, but we can seamlessly install them front and/or rear. The kit we use is the best available, and usual retail is £300 front or rear or £550 for the lot. Would there be any interest in a special price for these?

4.) Clifford alarm - millions of options, with trick features such as anti car jacking, and remote engine start (great in summer and winter where you can start the car and heat/cool the interior before you get in!)
Again, price will depend on numbers and final spec, but would you like some details?

5.) Tracker/Trackstar - as above - very useful and often pays for itself on insurance savings. Again, cost will depend on numbers.

Please feel free to email me any other things you may fancy.

Cheers

After a quick look using Froogle, the Becker 7820 comes up at £379.99 + 9.99 p&p inc VAT (from Caraudiodiscount.com).

Will you be undercutting this :?: You are too far for me so it would be supply of item only.
