View Full Version : Engine over revving but no increase in speed

Can anyoine advise what this problem might be please...
In 5th gear on the motorway, revs about 3000. Floor throttle and the rev's rise but there is no increase in speed/power (kinda feels like the rear wheels are spining but they're not). This problem only seems to happen in 5th gear and sorts itself out after 4000 revs.
Anyone have an idea what it may be?
Thanks in advance.

It's an indy I use. They've quoted £450 labour.

I don't know how long they'd take but the previous owner of mine used to work for BMW GB and fitted a clutch to mine a few months before I bought it, he said they're "dead easy".
just called my indy for you he said 4 hours! no more!

No problem. You could have saved me £250! I'm paying cash so they're not...you know.
How do you find the Pug? My MOTHER has a modified 205 GTI which I have driven and it's scarily fast.

You're right, I calculated it backwards 8)
Anyway to make sure if it's the clutch, you can try this simple test: from a stop, gear 5th and rev it up to about 3500, then rapidly let the clutch pedal go.
If it stalls, the clutch is ok. If it slips, it's time for a change.

that labour is very cheap!!!!!
