Seeing as there is a lack of topics thought i'd post about my new motor. After having owned and loved my MC i then moved to a Boxster (don't ask). After briefly considering another MC i've gone and bought a MK4 VW R32 Blue 3dr. To be fair its a cracking little motor, it'd give an MC a good run in the twisties and in the wet would be all over it like a rash....mine has a full milltek exhaust system which makes the 3.2 V6 sound brilliant...

Clearly its no match for the MC in a straight line but its got some soul, pretty unusual for a VW. Now looking for an E30 M3 track special to go in the garage

Slider nice to see you back in something decent. lol

If you want an E30 M3, get in touch with Moseley Motors in Telford. They prepare loads of E30 M3 race cars

Cheers

A friend has an R32 and Ive driven it, was a very nice car to drive, very smooth and felt very pokey (the short close ratio 6 speed box helps). It also has a Miltek exhaust system, sounds very nice; in fact its actually nicer than the standard VW system to live with because even though its louder its not as boomy as the standard system at low revs.

Slider,
I had to ask!!! My neighbour has a 03 Boxster (not the S model). He keeps going on about how great it is. I've only driven one before on a very short journey (half mile) so I can't really argue with him. I always found them boring to be honest. Anyway, I got offered a 98 model (80k on the clock) for a good price by my specialist car dealer friend. Are they really that good / bad?

Nobody hate me for posting this! Just trying to start a conversation.

My personal opnion is that Boxster are over rated. I had the S version which has 6 speed gearbox and 260bhp. To be fair to it weighing in at about 1250kg made it quite rapid - not in the M Coupe league though.

I had some problems with mine, which cost a fair bit to repair. I had some work done through a specialist and luckily I have a contact at Porsche GB so was able to get genuine parts at trade. Even so...guys honestly if you thought that BMW dealers rip you off then Porsche dealers are even worse!!!!!! Some of the stories on the Boxster forums

Build quality wasnt really all that either to be fair..not really in BMW league although I gather that the post 03 ones are much better.

If you pals not got a Boxster S and just the normal Boxster then he will be used to having Civic Type Rs harrass him........standard ones are pretty slow.

Handling wise they are pretty good but can get twitchy if you get careless and many forum owners have experienced what is known as the Boxster Spin.....in a mid engined car I dont need to explain what this is.

They have a good top speed because they are very slippery so to speak but the front does go light again engine in wrong place.

One thing I will say is that girls love em.....mine was black with lovely 18" Turbo alloys and it did look the part.....however unlike in the M Coupe you get absolutely no man respect and blokes that will give you the thumbs up in the M coupe will probably give you the bird or call you a W*nker in a Boxster....

They are also very expensive to insure. More than the M Coupe in general.

in summary I was unimpressed, sure the girls love em and it made a nice sound but overall my ownership experience wasnt great. I also felt a bit hairdresser like when drving it around and the "cant afford a proper Porsche" comment does get annoying.

However I bought it in the Winter and despite the money i spent on it I have just sold it and made a small profit. On that basis I will oncsider buying one again in january and selling in the spring, if you get a good one you can turn a good £1000-£2000 profit.

Well thats my no B*llshit review of the boxster :D

Slider,
Thanks for this. Good review! :D As I thought. I also heard that reliability wasn't great either despite Porsche repuatation.

I'll never understand why all the Car magazines keep going on about the Boxster, putting it first in most reviews. :? The Cayman S for example can do no wrong in most Car magazines reviews you read at the moment.

Along similar lines, anyone here driven the V6 Renault (Phase II version).
An idle thought, and a little bit of research showed that you can get one for similar S50 money.
Like Breadvan Matt said "...Just trying to start a conversation..."

I looked at a Clio V6 255 before choosing the R32 - decided on the R32 as it offer exactly the same with beeter build quality and much more practicality.

The Clio V6 is also a Chavs wet dream...which also put me off!!!

Its also not really that fast...to look at one you'd think it would have 300bhp minimum 255 bhp in a car weighing 1450kg is not impressive at all!

I also thought about a Clio V6 (Mark 1) for a while. Even low mileage ones can be picked up for about 12k sterling. As slider said, they do seem to be a Max Power type car (think of all the 1.1 clios with bodykits and big wheels out there). Also build quality would be a concern. But my main concern would be that after paying all that money (for the car, insurance and in Ireland the high Vehicle road tax for a 3.0 litre car :( )..... I could just see my wife / next door neighbour / friends saying "you bought a Clio? my sister has one of those!!".

Lads,
Quick one for yee (again making conversation). What's your opinions on the 350Z? I always liked these cars, probably as reliable as a Primera, look less Chav than a Clio V6, more powerful than a Boxster. They get good reviews in Magazines (but so do Boxster's I suppose). Has anyone driven one? I wouldn't mind going for a Test drive in one. Good value too when you consider that the new Z4 M coupe will probably cost 20k more than a new 350Z.

was good had some nice punch and made a good noise!
seats were like torture for me, and like the RX-8 felt very cheap inside!
but if you find the seats ok and can live with the interior they are good!

but i test drove this before the M so might not be as quick as i thought!
seem a lot still to!

The 350Z has something about it styling-wise that a lot of other japanese sports cars don't have. I really like them, the profile is 911ish and they look chunky and solid on the road.

you hit the nail on the head with the Boxster S, I have experienced the 'boxster spin' :x :x cost me a pretty penny!

also no respect from the guys but plenty of looks from the women which is the complete opposite to the MC

I have also had a V6 clio... great fun and good value now! crap interior

It got loads of attention!

the 350Z has a loverly sound, a freind has removed the cat and it is the closest thing to a ferarri I have heard!

no where as quick as the MC though, we travelled to le mans together last year and he lost out on every occasion! I am not sure it would feel as quick as the boxster either!

350Z does feel very cheap for what you are paying for it....also, it's a Renault engine so don't know how reliable they will be in the longterm. I test drove one before even concidering a ZMC and thought it was boring - the most powerful car I had owned to this point was a Lexus IS200!!!!

I drove a 350z before I bought the MC as I was considering one. It did not feel fast at all, my civic type r felt faster. I'm not sure what it was, but the engine just did not give as big a push in the guts when you floored it in a low gear as I was expecting. The interior plastic is very...errr....plastic. Felt pretty cheap and that the switches would break if you looked at them funny. I also found the styling from the back truly ugly. I love it from the front and sides, but from the back it is a bit of a boat.

put on UKTV G2 now for the 350Z or plus one G2 at 9!

those nissans are pretty slow....they weigh quite a bit and hve lazy engines....apparently they rarely put out the claimed output BHP. Also they are heavy which doesnt help!!!!

Only way to make them fast is to bolt a supercharger or turbo onto them...even then an MC would still have more than a fighting chance..

I also looked at one...but as my mate pointed out "Nissan??Its not exactly a premium German brand is it" LOL
