View Full Version : what do I do?
Some of you will know I have ummed and ahhed about selling my car....
my problem is that I bought her at 30k and am now 56k and will continue to put the mileage on this year.
The other problem is that I am not bored with the M coupe! today I met with Khooni and Chippy and lusted over all of our cars for a couple of hours.
Also I have spent the best part of £15k on tasteful mods and getting my car to a pristine condition.
Do I trade her in for a low miler S54 at somewhere like Munich Legends and have the majority of the bits transfered? or keep her and keep piling the miles on?
I know I have a peach of a car not only to look at but performance too so I could move to another car with problems!
in the back of my mind a CSL or a C4s does tempt me but I love the MC today as much as when I picked her up so I know I could happily stay in MC ownership!
I know I sound indecisive and part of that comes from being in the lucky position to upgrade my car within the next 6 months if I wish to, so ofcourse I keep an eye on the prices of cars I like (which does not help!)
any thoughts on the milaege thing very welcome!!!

Lee,
You seem to me to have no difficulty in getting money together. Therefore, if I were you, and feeling the way about your MC as you do, I'd plan to keep the car forever, and when you feel like a change don't trade the MC in but buy something else and then just use the MC for around 3k miles or so per year for really serious driving (Welsh weekends and the likes). By the time you get to my age, you'll still have your MC, which will be a recognised "Classic" by then and worth lots of money even with all your mods. That way, you'll still be able to drive the MC for years to come and enjoy all the mods you've carefully chosen to do. Even in 30 years time, cars won't go much faster than the MC, that's if by then, they don't make us all drive eco-friendly euroboxes.
I'll still have my MC in 30 years time if I'm still around by then, and hopefully still able to drive it.
Since I plan to keep the car forever, the mileage issue is of no concern to me, Every mile I drive my MC is a nother mile of sheer motoring bliss, which to me, is worth more than money (There are no pockets in shrouds). 8)

Hi Lee I was in the same dilemma as you a little while ago was going to either replace it with a Noble or CSL I decided to go buy a CSL went in to a stealer to buy it after having test-drove it 2 weeks before but it was sold the day before. Dam dam dam. After that happened I had another good long think during this period BMW uk warranty pricing also helped in my thoughts and wasn’t to impressed with having to spend 1250 a year on a car with hardly any mileage that I was going to buy and would have just got over 3 years old the year after id have purchased it. I came to the conclusion that I needed a bigger jump so instead I decided to stay with my M coupe save the money for either a 996 GT3 or GT2.
Id say keep your car until you find something that would not make you think twice about trading it in for. Also as it’s your car you no where it’s at and you have all the mods you want on it.

Lee
Good to meet up yesterday and you're car is now looking (and going  ) so well. 8)
I totally agree with both the above comments. You know that i have been thinking about a Porsche GT 2 (or more realistically a GT3  )for a while, but having now done a few mods to the coupe i really think i'll keep the coupe forever as its a weekend car that i drive when I want to rather than having to, to get somewhere. Also the coupe will never lose that rare 'wow, what was that' factor.
So, go and get yourself a nice new fun modern run-about for £15-20K (Golf gti etc) that you can pile the mileage onto whilst still having fun and then really enjoy the times your out in the coupe without worrying about the mileage

KEEP IT.
You know you'll regret it once it's gone as it will leave such a big whole in the driveway/garage. Totally agree with all of the above comments. Get yourself a fun everyday car and keep the Coupe for dry weekends. Golf GTI would be a great motor to run alongside. What about a used RS4!!!!!! Then you'd have 2 rocket ships
all good advice!
I need to find something that will genuinely be enough fun to keep me out of the MC!!
otherwise I will pick the coupe everytime!
have been thinking about a caterham to do some summer driving in and maybe stop me doing so much in the MC

Keep it if you can buy another car to run around in. Not sure if you have tried a Mini but it keeps me out of my MC and its not even an "S".

John, he's now sold this!

Lee that’s what im doing was going to mention it but didn’t want to throw you another spanner in the works im getting an MNR Vortx with a haybusa engine in it. Have a look at one of those. This will quench my thirst for a bit without spending too much money which will allow me to save up for a gt2 or gt3 preferably the new gt3 which looks awesome.

Lee, are there any pics of your car around? I'd love to see what changes you've made.
Cheers, DD

(Gcomm,Exdos,Chippy, Steve1 etc)
up untill about a year ago it seemed as if there was hardly any modded MC'c and then its gone mad since then!
there is my sig below which details what I have to date, there are a few interior bits which I have not listed.
Also my gallery is full of pics,
I will be happy to let you have any info on anything else I have done!

My old (yr2000) track GSXR 750 made 149hp at the wheels and weighed 152kg's.......you work out the power to weight ratio
Sorry, but NOTHING comes close to a well sorted bike for a rush

Lee,
I don't know what to say. I am of 2 minds myself.... ;) It's a good problem to have. BTW, you could always freshen up the engine. Besides, you would never get sufficient value out f her to keep. My 2 cents

I wish I could afford one! im hoping after the summer I will find one thats not h too much abuse!
considered the bike, a ducati 748 or an R6 but how many hobbies can a guy have?!?!
I have a hard time just getting chance to go for a decent drive in the MC when the traffic is not terrible!
I have reached a decision.... (i think)
I am going to stick some 'for sale' stickers on my car at Le Mans and if I get a nice offer then I will find a 30-40k mile S54 in either Estoril or phoenix
I have also sent a mail to Mark at Minich Legends to see what he can come up with
As long as I sell my car before 65k I think I will not lose too much £ on it
I am also going to join Ecurie25 and have some summer exotica

I was looking at Ecurie25, but im not old enough :?
"What is the minimum age for joining?
écurie25 membership is available for people between 30 and 65. Any potential members outside of this age range may be considered on an individual basis. Additional insurance premiums or excess may apply"

I have the same problem with Ecurie25 :(
It's definitely the way to go though Lee - good decision.
You still need something to keep you grinning on a daily basis though and enjoy some sort of sense of ownership. What's it going to be?

I love my MC to bits and it still brings a smile to my face whenever I drive it or even just look at it in the garage.
But I have to admit that my motorbike gives me more accessible fun. Any ride is an experience because the traffic is not a barrier to enjoying the bike - in the way it is in a car. To really get the best out of the MC you have to actually plan to drive somewhere to find some traffic free roads and I rarely find time to do that.
So although I enjoy driving the MC at any time (its surprisingly practical and the bursts of acceleration are very useful!), its difficult to experience it at its best; and most of the pleasure comes from that weird pride of owning and driving something very different.
