Just a quickie for the S50's amongst you ...

My oil temperature seems to runs a little hot, and would appreciate if any of you could tell me what temp you see when doing a steady 80-90mph, and what oil you're running... :?:

Me: Castrol GTX Mag 10w40 90-100deg C

I know there can be variation from car to car, but wondered if mine has a little too much 'variation' ...

Cheers

mine varies between 70 and 90. almost up to 100 at times, even on motorway jaunts.

Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 70-90 degrees sometimes going up to 100 in traffic or when I have seriously caned the car.

Once warmed up, mine sits steady at 90 degrees.

Oil is whatever the stealers put in it.

Oil is supposed to run at abount 90-100degrees so sound ok. I think 130degrees+ is when you would start to worry but this would only occur on track I'd imagine. I always wait till mine shows at least 80degrees before opening up the revs over 3000rpm. I find that oil temps can raise around 100ish on quick blasts but very high speed driving it seems to cool better probably because even though its sat at high revs the oil cooler is being fed plenty of air.

10/40 Magnatec is a semi-sythentic (and could affect oil temps), I thought fully sythentic was best for these engines?

It seems that I may have been worrying needlessly - but nice to know that our engines are all doing similar things.

As for oil selection - its what Munich Legends recommended.
I had run Mobil 0W40 previously, and had slightly higher temps than I have now on the Magnetec.

Silkolene Pro S as per Maahny. About 90-100 most of the time.

90-100 normally, motorway at speed limit 85 (assume cooling of the air)

Welsh weekends= 110

This is not overly hot, a decent 5w-40 synthetic will take up to 120degC for prolonged periods.

These temps will stretch a semi-synthetic like Maganatec though.
