View Full Version : Buying an MC - advice pls!
Hi, i'm in the process of buying the MC that i've wanted for so long! Need some help with the following:
1) i'm suspicious of the service booklet on the car. It has a full set of (colour) dealer stamps but the book itself looks like a cheap photocopy with a white plastic binder. Also, there's no colour on the cover or anywhere inside. Are they all like this?
2) the car has 5 green lights on at 42k miles, but has not had an inspection 2 service. is that unusual? is the interval purely self-calculating or is there a recommended mileage/age at which it needs doing anyway?
3) The car is in great condition except that the chrome boot handle is corroded/bubbly and the M badges are faded. What sort of money are these to replace?
Thanks guys!

pies,
are you "pies" on pistonheads?
thanks for that.
yes, versus the pics i found in the gallery the one i saw was definitely not right
the stamps and all that were immaculate, just the cover and the paper that looked cheap. Don't suppose anyone else has seen a service book like this?
Hmmmmm....now what
I suppose the only way to check is to ring all the dealers who serviced it?
will they all try and charge me for the info? :(
No, i'm not Pies on Pistonheads.

Dealers are fine, they will confirm a car they have serviced no probs. I called one of the old dealers when I bought mine because the service book showed a service without a stamp, they were very helpful.
Service booklet should be fairly easy to spot as a fake, bear in mind that the picture on it (at least on mine!) is quite low res, so I suppose it could vaguely look photocopied.

If the service history is main dealer, then a phone call to either a good dealer or customer services will tell you all about the service history, they can even give you a print out of what has been done on the car, as long as it was done at a main dealers.
Good luck, trust your judgement.
Steve.
