I've had the vanos filter replaced, but to make sure all is well, I want to replace the vanos bolts as well.

1.) I remember reading that the vanos bolts have been uprated / strengthed. Am I just imagining this, or is this true? How can I tell if I have the uprated vanos bolts?

2.) Does anyone have a part number for the vanos bolts that I need to order? And how many of them will I need?

3.) Is there a visible difference between the old and new vanos bolts? When I get the dealer to change them, I want to compare the old and the new.

Thanks

Manic

ring bmw uk or bmw south afria in your case ,they will have on record any work that has been caried out to the car and i do believe the bolts where strengthened as part of the recall

Thanks, p 5ary. Will give them a shout.

I've done a little more digging, and have found the following part number for the bolts:

07.11.9.900.677

According to the website I found it on, there are 8 bolts that need replacing. When I look at the actual unit, I count a few more than that (not counting the vanos filter, of course). Any comments?

Also, does anyone know if the above part number relates to the old bolts or the new strengthened bolts? I am assuming that BMW would have pulled the old bolts, so when I call the parts department, they will tell me if the above part is still available.

Thanks

Wow. Great diagram, thanks. So which bolts are you ordering? According to the information I havem you only need number 18 and number 12 (the 8 bolts that I mentioned).

But what about number 15 and number 8? Shouldn't they be replaced as well?
