Trackday last week - by the end, clutch slipping and power steering a bit noisy.

Thinks 'I'll give it a few days and it'll fix itself' i.e. stick my head in the sand.

Clutch liveable with for the moment just driving around London but power steering making horrible noises at low revs - worst when stationary. I have not even opened the bonnet. Is there anything stupidly obvious I should check before I book it into the garage?

p 5ary, thanks
GOOD IDEA!

I will try and find the reservoir tomorrow morning and top it up with best spring water :D , if I can just pull myself away from watching Le Mans.

The PAS reservoir is under the intake manifold, is easiest access with the airbox and duct removed. Use ATF fluid.

if its the pump, a place in greenwich can recon them for 200ish.

Thanks for the advice guys,

Had a look at power steering reservoir - cap missing and fluid spillage in surrounding area. Took it off to the main dealer (had an oil service 3 months ago) and they said that, although the power steering fluid is not part of the oil service, any mechanic should have noticed the missing cap.

However, fluid level was still not low enough to cause a problem. Therefore, it was either a steering rack problem or the power steering pump gone.

On further inspection, rack was okay. New pump fitted today on EW. Cost to BMW Warranty £326.58p ex VAT.

SORTED :D

or because with the lid off some "crap" got into the system and blocked the pump?

either way, love it when a plan comes together! all fixed!! love E/w!!!
