View Full Version : Throttle Travel

Drove Maahny's car yesterday and was surprised at two things:
1) the extremely short travel of the accelerator pedal
2) Less than expected throttle response for an M engine.
Can some of you please tell me how long your throttle pedal travel is from top to WOT? On this particular car it's shorter than an E30!
Are the any differences between the setup of the engine in a ZM vs E36 M3 3.2?
This is the first ZM I've driven and was pleasantly surpised. Fantastic steering and balance with a decent ride.
Cheers

Throttle travel on mine is much the same as my old E30, seems quite long compared to other cars I have driven. I had a new cable fitted last year and that made a difference with better response and pick up.
Don't be deceived by the seemingly lack of power, I thought that when I first had mine but you have to drive them and above 4.5k they fly.
Go for it you won't regret it

Hi Sal,
i thought mine wasnt as quick as my old evo but it is by far the quicker car, m power is so smooth you just dont realise how fast it is!
1) the extremely short travel of the accelerator pedal
my accelerator pedal goes on forever, nearly need to lift the heel of the ground to push it to the bottom  .

I only had a new cable put in a couple of weeks ago so I'll get iot checked. Might not be set up properly. Its still fast enough :D

It defo needs setting up as its so so short. Its like half the distance of an E30 one if not less.
Almost like an on off switch.
Also, in relation to the brake pedal - is the accelerator way way down or at about the same height?
Sal
The brake pedal is quite a bit higher on mine.
I can't see how the throttle travel can be different from car to car as this is determine by the throttle cable position on the throttle. It mustn't begetting full throttle; easiest way to check is to open the bonnet with the throttle full down and check the throttle body is fully open.
A long shot, but the only other thing that could cause this is if the throttle cable has been put on the wrong slot in the throttle body (cars with cruise control have 2 cables going on the throttle arm and the throttle cable should be on the top most slot so that it has a larger radius and therefore longer travel).
