Since the onset of warm weather I have noticed that the Air Con is just not up to it (even though I have had a regas 2 months ago) I end up opening the windows

What are the main reasons for poor performance?

Has anyone had any luck getting work done under BMW warranty on these items?

Your aircon should be icy cold with a regas.

Mine packed up completely a month ago (cracked condensor) and was replaced under warranty including a regas (which was needed anyway). It's pretty pricey to sort out if anything major goes wrong - I think my work was in the region of £1k.

Cheers Chris,

I suppose best thing to do is to take it to BMW dealer and get them to investigate,
although I can almost hear the response, "Seems to be working fine to us Sir"

My one piece of advice would be to make sure that it definitely isn't working correctly for mechancial reasons otherwise you will pay an hour of BMW labour rates for them to tell you its working fine.

Air conditioning systems are essentially the same for all cars so don't go to BMW unless you have a warranty. Look in the yellow pages there are loads of air con specialists, some are mobile units which can come out and look at the car; they'll be able to check whats wrong with it, if it's fine after a regas then its most likely got a leak so they will find the leak (usually put a different gas through and use special goggles to see where the leak is), then it will be a matter of changing a seal or something, then regas it.

Yes, I do have the extended warranty c_w

Not sure if Sytners would charge to investigate???
Will check though as car is now booked in for Saturday.

they will only charge you if there is a fault on the car.
then they will charge the investigation time to the warranty

Ben

That's wrong. They will charge you if there is no fault on the car because they will be unable to claim back their technician's time against specific work done under the EW.

Yea as above, if you have extended warranty and there is a major fauly like the air con isn't working I would have expected you to be able to drop it in and have them fix it regardless of what is causing the problem/how long it takes to diagnose.

That's what I would have thought c_w.

It would take an audacious dealer to tell me there is nothing wrong with it (when there obviously is!) and then try and charge me 1 hours labour.

Sytners BMW Harold Wood have been good so far weith the warranty items so fingers crossed :?

Just got a call from Sytners: AC Condensor needs replacing.

Looks like this extended warranty is worth it so far, epecially if the £1K Chris H states is correct.

You can look at it both sides; the dealer earns money on the warranty so is glad to order in expensive parts, but on the other hand its usually just a cheap seal that causes most A/C problems but a dealer will just replace the whole part.

Glad its getting fixed though.
