View Full Version : exdos mod
I keep hearing references to this modification...
what is it?

its a modification of the OEM intake trumpet inside the air box which allows more air to reach the filter.
it works too!
very cheap mod, all you need is a haksaw!

I'll write a "sticky" all about the theory behind the mod over the next few days.

I have now written a "sticky" on the rationale behind the Exdos Mod and air induction.

When the M Coupe’s engine is running at 7500rpm, the 3,246cc engine consumes 24.345 cubic metres of air per minute
How did you work that out Exdos? :?:
Is it a 2 stroke?
Afaik, 13 cubic metres/min is the 'target flow' for S54 intake systems.

   I multiplied the total capacity of the 6 cylinders by the r.p.m which gave 24.345 cubic metres. Obviously it's half of that for the 4 stroke which is 12.17 cubic metres (nearly your 13 metres/min).
That's the danger of putting stuff on the internet without a proof-reader

Just got around to do my exdos mod and to my suprise its been already done! Previous owner was a member of this forum so I guess he picked up the tip from here.
You should patent the idea Exdos!!!
Also filter looks very dirty,
1. What can I use to clean it? Someone suggested a bit of petrol
2. Just had an Insp 1 about 300 miles ago. Should they have changed the filter?
Cheers

If the filter is a paper one just buy another- they're about £12 or so. Alternatively tap it against the floor with the dirty side downwards, this will remove some of the crap out of it. I would've expected a new air-filter at an Insp 1 ask your stealer if they fitted one.
If the filter is a K&N oil coated one, then go onto the K&N website and follow their instructions for cleaning.

Exdos I think mine is a paper one or is it? See photos.
Had a look on my service sheet and it appears the filter is only renewed on an Insp 2. Took your advice and tapped it to get rid of the crap but still looks really dirty so will get one tomorrow.

That's a K&N re-useable filter. Go to the K&N website to find out how you should clean it.
