A couple of us have been talking about going up to SantaPod this month for some 1/4 mile runs. I know Lee and Rags are up for this too. We are planning on going on 29.10.06 so if you're interested just come along. It costs about £30 for unlimited runs. I will post more details about times later on.
Imran
I would be up for this :D
Edit - Are you guys coming from London way by anychance?

Alex, I didnt mean to put you off and was looking forward to seing the new car.
If it makes you feel any better, I had my lightened flywheel/M5 Clutch replaced the day before LeMans and I can tell you I was I definitely had a spirited drive down
but the advice given to me was bed it in for 100-150 miles with a mix of normal traffic and motorway.
Lee
I may still be on then, if could easily do 100 miles tomorrow..
:D
Alex, as you can't make it to Santa Pod would you be interested in meeting and showing me some of your favourite roads on Sunday morning. :)
It may not be a large meet, but at least we can start bedding your clutch in and I get to drive some new roads.
Neil,
I may still be going to this as i may go for a bed in drive tomorrow, so if you fancy that let me know..

Dont worry Lee i know the e36coupe guys go quite alot and the M3's reach around 103 etc they dont need them..
I have been to Santa Pod loadsa times and never needed a Helmet in the cars I have had.
However, if you have one, you may as well wear it!

I didn't have a crash lid the last time I went. I was constantly over 100mph and no-one said a word. I think it is stated for legal reasons. People in soft tops all had lids. Have fun tomoorow boys

Times etc boys ? Good day out ? Hope so - wouldnt have been able to make it anyhow due to family business.
Imran got a 13.3
My best was a 13.7
What did Lee get?
I will let him post!
I had a dissapointing day yesterday at Santapod and the best time my car managed was a 13.7 with Maahny driving.
I think there are a number of reasons for this and having never been to Santa pod before I had no idea what it would be like
Basically I could no get traction down, I could easily spin the wheels in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.... it is very slippery in comparison to a road surface and I think my diff along with my suspension setup (very hard for track use) was restrictingmy traction.
I also think my car is losing power higher up due to the induction I have which many people have told me. I tried Maahnys Simota on my car and there was a noticable difference.
I have ordered an Simota!! :D
I came away a little dejected after yesterday and I was considering changing my diff to a 3.46 but how often will I go to santa pod??? my car is for use on road and track which the current setup works very well.
Imran(maahny) and I did some testing on the motorway on the way home and my car will initialy pull a head due to the diff and then he will catch me up later at 6-7000rpm where my car is being restricted my my Pipercross induction.
His car is also remapped to a proven 330bhp so there is also this to be taken into consideration.
I will be getting him to remap my car as I have driven his and there is a massive difference in the power delivery! there are absolutely no flat spots and a constant linear power delivery which his dynos show.
Good work mate :!:

Ideal set-up for Santa Pod is to run your suspension stiff at the front and soft at the rear, it also helps to overinflate your front tyres and underinflate your rears, combine this with a good burn out before you run and you should get pretty good traction, thereafter it's all about the quality of your gearchanges and the cars power. This is what I do with my Cerbera and it helps make it the quickest in the country on the drag strip.
Jules.
Sounds like i missed a good day! Weather was perfect for it aswell..
Hopefully i will be able to make it next time!

Great day.
I was expecting a little more out of Lee's car myself and really egged him on. However I think the shorter gearing really lets the car put down too much power in 1st and 2nd gear. The pants pipercross induction kit is also not helping matters at top end and this was really evident with the lower times Imran managed to get with the Simota fitted.
Imran's car really went well and 13.3 is a damn good time. CSL's with their launch control only get around that aswell. And that's with the most aggressive shift mode.
I unfortunatey had some bad luck with my first attempt to even reach Santapod with a blown diff on my M5. Did end up making it in an Alpina C2 2.7 in the end but had no license to run it.
I think Lee was well impressed with the 2.7 on our drive home... :D Not quite ZM quick though!
Alot of people were drooling over the Z's there!

Agreed the diff really does make it hard to get traction down on that surface but on the road it works a treat!
Really keen to get the car remapped and see the results.
The Simota is a top piece of kit too, the build quality and quality of the fittings are awesome, as soon as they are available I will be on my way to pick one up!
Sal your Alpina is seriously quick and the way it picks up if you get away first she pulls like a train! Sounds awesome too!

Santa Pod is so much more slippy on the start than say York - I can see why you had issues Lee.
Some good runs there though guys.
Jules (Cyclone) why dont you pop along to our trackday next month to show us just how quick your car really is ;)

Next time I am going to soften the rear suspension right up and borrow some slicks from Animal :D

The problem is that where into winter time now and the ground is cold so the rubber that has been put down over the summer is cold and when its like this its very slippy unlike if you were there in the middle of summer on a nice warm day where youd get good grip.
Best launches i have got are at juctions where they put down that high grip grainy surface top coat tarmac the redy one. Oh my god you can get awesome launches of that stuff make you sick from the launch.

There is something similar to that at York dragway. Each lane is split in 2 with a short strip of high grip or reguar tarmac so you can choose which you start off on. It really hammers your tyres though if you spin them up on that stuff leaving scores around the tyre.

Ah one more thing my slicks would be rubbish for a drag burn up as you’d never get them up to temp to make them sticky as there track tyres and designed to be used on the track so when there cold slicks are rubbish.

Hi Broccers,
The mighty Cerb has even more power than when at Nobles for the RR day this time last year :D .
Would love to pop along to your trackday but wouldn't want to embarress the M Coupes  only kidding. My Cerbera is up for sale at the moment so taking it on a track day might not be the best idea. I might take it back down to Santa Pod one more time though (if there's any events left, if not then early next year if the car's not sold)as the last time I went in August (32degrees :x )the car was pulling 11.9s with crap launches of only 2.0secs (I've managed a best launch of 1.835 which is good for a RWD Cerb) so I know that there is an 11.7 in the car, as well as a bit of recent remapping which should see it down to 11.5.
Even though I don't post a lot on here at the moment I like to keep in touch with the forum and still wouldn't rule out a possible purchase of an M Coupe (even discussed a possible swap / p/ex with a memeber).

If poss stiffen up the fronts as well and overinflate the tyres, I put my front tyres up to about 46psi and drop the rears to 16-18psi. I've tried slicks once but the problem was that it rained a couple of times in the morning and even though the strip had been dried I never really managed a decent launch, if anything they span up even more. As animal has said on a hottish summer day the slicks may be ok, especially with a couple of good burn outs. In cold weather a good burn out is worth doing even on std tyres, as some heat into the tyres is better than none and it does make a difference to your launch time.
The launch is critical as this is where you will lose or gain time. For example, I can launch my car at 2.0secs(60ft) and this will give me a time of 11.9secs, if I can reduce my launch to 1.8secs then my car should run an 11.7sec 1/4 (on same day all other things being equal).
Might be worth comparing your launch times (or slips) with Maahny and this should give you an indication of what your car is capable of.
Jules.

Mate thats quick thing is he could go quicker as he lost so much time in the 1st 2 gears or 3 gears i take it he couldnt get the power down as that other car was allot further ahead in the begining and got a better launch if he could it would be even quicker. But when it hooked up at the end it went like a rocket.
There is a vid ill have to find it of an E30 M3 turbo nut job that does it in the 9s ill see if i can find it.

Lee, your car is a bullet. You have nothing to prove.
Once the intake is modded it's going to go even quicker and I am sure your car will edge away from the M5 at any speed.
