Am defo on the list of 'interesteds'!
Have just emailed the guys I normally go with to see what support there is for this year.

If we get enough MC attendance we could stop at the Reims race circuit for a photo shoot :?: 8-)

whats the crack when it comes to accomodation?

slummin it in tents or hotels?

The 2-3 times that i have been, I camped within the race circuit, see map for locations:

http://www.z3mcoupe.com/photopost/data//536/426Le_Mans_-_Map.jpg

this means that you are in a tent - but very local for the race + other ents.
You can stay at a hotel, but its gonna be expensive and the roads to and from the circuit on race-day get very snarled up.
This year i'd like to give http://www.chateau-de-chanteloup.com/ a go, which is basically up-market camping with decent toilets & food facilities.
If anyone is interested, I have a Le Mans guide (a bit tongue in cheek) that i put together, and can email out - pls pm your details.

I'm defintiely going. Will probably be travelling down with mates on Thursday morning, staying in Maison Blanche campsite again.

In terms of getting ready, this is all you need to know:

In order that you are fully prepared for Le
Mans, please follow the 10 simple steps below:

1. Visit a supermarket on you way home on Friday. Buy
a 24 pack of Kronenbourg, a brown plastic gallon
container of cheap red wine, some very spicy sausages,
a large tub of pate and one of yesterdays baguettes.

2. Pop across to the local DIY store and purchase a
100 litre bag of 1 inch gravel, a disposable BBQ and a
litre of lighting fluid (turps will do as an
alternative).

3. Drive home at speeds well in excess of the
speed-limit (of course, not recommended - NOTE: speed
can go down as well as up) with your shopping on your
lap (the rest of the car is of course filled with half
the contents of Millets), park the car and set-up camp
in the hardest, bumpiest corner of the garden. Spread
the gravel across the lawn - this will be your
bed/seat/sunlounger/toilet for the weekend.

4. Continue chain-drinking bottles of Kronenbourg,
while you leave the wine, pate and baguette in the sun
to get warm. Light the barbeque. Ask the local
Nova-Boyz to start lapping the cul-de-sac, revving
engines to 'the Max'.

5. Place your sausages on the barbeque and forget all
about them. Your pate should be nice and warm by now
and will be just perfect spread with a
spoon/tent-peg/spanner onto your stale baguette. Drink
a couple of litres of warm wine out of a cracked
plastic cup.

6. As it starts to get dark, ask your neighbours to
play Jimi Hendrix at volume '11' on the hi-fi, while
speaking very loudly in Danish. If they have any
fireworks leftover from Guy Fawkes they can use them
to maximum effect by firing them at low altitude at
your car, food, beer, head, etc. Remember that you
cooked some sausages earlier. Scrape-off the burnt
outer layer with the edge of the barbie and savour the
spicey flavour interlaced with lighter fluid.

7. Keep drinking beer, wine, bbq lighting fluid, turps
until you fall over.

8. At 3.47am, get woken up by some unknown Dutch chap
stepping on you. Your bladder should be bursting by
now. Those spicy sausages are working wonders on your
bowel.

9. Wander in the dark to your bathroom. Crouch over
the shower tray, empty your bowel while urinating on
the floor. Ask your wife/girlfriend/partner/mum to mop
your bare-feet with a urine soaked squeegee while
shouting out you in French. Pay her a euro for three
sheets of pink loo-roll. Make your way back to your
site (for effect you can trip over sharp obstacles you
placed in strategic positions earlier - make sure you
fall in the pond/ditch/down an open drain on your way
back).

10. Wake up again at 5am, covered in dew, wine,
merguez sausage and other things which you have no
recollection of what they are, or how they got smeared
on your clothing. Now go back to step 4 and repeat for
another 40 hours.

Don't forget to be at work bright and early on Monday
morning and tell everyone endlessly how good it was
and that they reaaallly, reaalllly must come next
year... no really, you must... and next year I vow
I'll take that _________ I've been meaning to buy
(insert model number of Porsche which you dream of
owning but know you'll only ever drive in 'Gran
Turismo III')...

You are now officially prepared for Le Mans.

After speaking with Dale, we may go to the Ring the week leading up to LeMans.

Who would be interested in a double Whammy?

Ben,

Going to the ring on Monday after Le Mans because it will be open from 1pm onwards. It is only open in the evening in the week preceding Le Mans. So we need to leave Le Mans about midday on the Sunday as it's a LONG drive. I've booked my ferries and tickets to Le Mans already. Arrive France on Thursday 14th, leave France the following Wed 20th. Just need to look into somewhere to stay for the Ring.

Chippy,

Any recommendations for comfortable digs around the ring. Any good scenic routes in the area?

Can't wait :-P

Dale

I'd say the best value for money, closest to track (300yds  ) and friendly atmosphere would be the ringhaus. Have a look at their website (www.ringhaus.com) and if you want to ask any questions you'll need to email or speak to Frank there as his English is good ;)

Obviously there are other places should you wish to go 'up-market' a bit and the Tiergarten (www.am-tiergarten.de) is very nice(but usually full  ).

If you want any more info, give me a shout ;)

As to scenic routes, all the local roads seem to be scenic!!!. Also should you get bored with the driving  there are loads of cool mountain bike trails(bike hire in Adenau) near the Ring 8-)

that ringhaus looks good, to be honest i think sleeping in a cave will be better after a weekend in a tent in 35 degree heat!

actually thats a lie im determined to take a small aircon unit for the tent!
oh yeah! 8-) 8-) 8-)
