I will be taking my car for a special MOT!!! It is mandatory for teh registration process in Portugal. For that I need to know Urgent! I need to know where, in the S54 engine block is located de engine nº!!!

The VIN number is in the engine compartment, at the top, just below the windscreen. The Type Plate is in the engine compartment on the right wheel arch.

I do not know where the 'engine number' is but an inspector should know, from experience, where to look.

The first two I've found before...and yes, the inspector should know where to look for but if the number is covered in dirt or to hard to find usually they will just right down that they could not find the number and then I will need to take the car to BMW but since the car does not have a plate or an insurance yet (because of the registration process) I would need to pay for a toe.truck and it is not that cheap because the nearest BMW Dealer is not so close...

Give your nearest BMW dealer a call - 'just bought a z3m coupe, will need you for servicing in the future, getting the car registered, need to know where the engine number is' - easy.

"The BWM engine numbers are found on the steel rib just above the OIL PAN on the right side of the engine close to the radiator and beside the A/C compressor and timing chain (or belt) adjuster screw."

Found the nº today! Had the time and took the car to a friend's garage and when we lifted the car, after some inspection, following the advice here on this thread, he found the number!!!
