For anybody remotely interested, Dave Shelton continues his modding of the ex-Hawthorns race car.
Latest improvements include a new type of rear axle, 8 pistons rear brakes, the tuning of the Penske shocks with the different spring rates on the car, group A front and other bits.

Current problem is an intermittent electrical problem which they suspect could be to do with the lower crankshaft pulley; they are running a £4,500 Motec management ECU and are looking into this.

He estimates that it will be up to Porsche GT3 performance (!) on track in the next 4 weeks (quote 'which should not be possible with an M Coupe'). He is doing a test day on Wed. 20th June at the Goldtrack Brands Hatch GP trackday. So, anybody who wants to spectate, let me know - or you can book one of the remaining trackday slots for £399. I am waiting for the preceding Sunday's weather forecast before committing to going on track.

After that, he is definitely racing both days on 11th/12th August at Brands with both the ZM Coupe and the sports car (which I can't recall). Again, let me know if anybody wants entrance.

Ben forget about the motec because to run it properly your looking in the region of nearly what you spent on your car. Vanos has to come of and locked out then no point in runing motec if your not going to put a carbon airbox on it and the list goes on and on.

go alpha N far less expensive and better for a road/track car. just a good few hours mapping on the dyno.

now all you have to do is find a decent mapper????

Again,
I'll have words with my garage man on Wednesday.

As for Brands on 20th, 3 old piccies from 2004 which give a flavour. Because it's a rare GP circuit event (and expensive), the range of cars is more highly performance oriented and a lot of testing going on.

I only know of one person who can remap the existing ECU to run a MAFless airbox and that is Wayne Schofield of Chipwizard. He does done lots of e36 m3's with the same set up.

BEN,
my garage man runs Motec on his racing 205 GTI. Says it is good 'but expensive'. He uses a man near Oxford for mapping, who presumably can do do Alpha N aswell. I can get his details if you go down that route.
