Been thinking of doing a track day or two in the MC and was wondering how they hold up - i.e will I need to replace the front brakes and rear tyres etc and just peoples general experience of the costs.

Are there any other common problems caused by taking it on the track etc. I assume the oil pump is strong enough to keep pressure at high g's

Also for those of you that do track days where do you get your insurance from (assuming you have track insurance)

thanks for the info

If you click on the topic heading directly above yours, it will give you an idea.

Thanks that does help a bit but I was more after the specific costs associated with the car.

For instance you can take a caterham to a track and get several track days out of the tyres / brakes etc but not in a viper or something heavier with more power. Also some cars have known issues when being tracked eg noble M12 and oil pressure etc

Ive heard that the stock MC brakes just melt after a few laps so would probably need replacing afterwards..... that sort of thing

I find they're fine on tyres all round, I've tracked mine a couple of times and found there wasn't a great deal of wear (although they were hard Continentals!). They also wear the fronts nice and even (ie not much shoulder wear).

Heavy on brakes though so don't expect standard ones to cope with anything more than gentle use. At the very least I would uprate the front pads.

The S54 engine, I've read, is even better than the S50 at combating oil surge, so I think you're ok there, particularly on road tyres.

Thanks for the info - yeah I've got soft pads in all round at the moment but even then find they fade with fast road use. I suspected they might be poor after a few laps of heavy use. Problem is brake upgrades are £££££££££

Thats good news I was hoping as much - didn't fancy having to replace a set of tyres after each track day ! would cost just too much to be able to justify.

Better get my butt out on the track as soon as the insurance is sorted.........

Just changing the fronts to some good Pagid RS pads will be good enough for the odd trackday I think, will cost about £150 a set though, but you get what you pay for!!

Brakewise, the only change I have made is ferodo ds 2500 pads. They work continuously right down to where the ABS cuts in lap after lap. No fade. Very very dirty wheels is the only price I pay.

I was going to get Pagids but after lots of discussion on this forum, the apparent warmup required to get them working for everyday use put me off.

a track day could be very expensive, make sure you dont run your oil temp to high or low, or you'll end up forking out for a replacement lump!

I agree, but just keep your eye on the gauges and you will be alright.
