Z3M Coupe comparison with 996 Carrera from Autocar July 1998. Interesting to see how the 996 is shown as much quicker to 100 despite being 25bhp down and only slighty lighter.

Thats because the Porsche would have actually made the power Porsche quoted or slightly more and the MC would have been making anywhere from 270BHP to 290BHP. How BMW can get away with lying about power figures and get away with it is shocking.

I agree this is quite often the case especially with the S50 engines but mine makes ~324 bhp and I would defintely not match those acceleration figures.

Must be a case of lower transmission loss and gearing and less weight.

Yes I think that's the case, Ive always said Porsche bhp is stronger than BMW's. I think the 321bhp is over quoted but also the Porsche has lower transmission losses, has better traction for 0-60 and much better aerodynamics for 60mph+

Have a look at the S54 Z3M Roadster article I scanned in - it shows similar recorded figures to the 911.
