What's the definitive date for the introduction of the S54? I've seen year 2000 Coupes for sale claiming 325bhp, Munich Legends says February 2001, Parkers from March 2001, a Wikipedia entry states October 2001 (but can't trust wikis).

Thanks.

Realoem (bmw TIS) tells us the first s54 was made in march 2000. Must be some pre production models.

As there are only a smalll number of S54's made (117 in RHD, I believe), has anyone worked out how to establish the production number within the total run (eg Sept 2001 would be early on in the run)? It would be good to know for future refernec possibly?

This has been well covered in the past. Do a search.

According to the BMW Registry, the production of the S54 begun 02/01 and finished 05/02.
There were 168 made in RHD.
Hope this helps.

Steve.

Cheers, I have one and just wondered if it's possible to establish what number that is within the run ie if it's May 2001, does that make it number 30 out of 168 etc? Not aware there's anything you can work out from the chassis number, unless I suppose you contact BMW.

I am not sure if this has been covered before (couldn't really see any thing on it) But i was looking on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do for some parts and then i started to look into when my car was built and it looks like you can see the build dates in relation to Chassis No:

168 Cars Total - S54 LHD:

Build Date - 03/2000 - Poss Pre Prod
Build Date - 04/2000 - Poss Pre Prod
Build Date - 08/2000 - Poss Pre Prod

Chassis LC69000 - LC69082 - Build Date - (09/2000 - 09/2001) - 83 Cars
Chassis LC69200 - LC69281 - Build Date (10/2001 - 04/2002) - 82 Cars

I'm sure you could do the same for the S50 cars as well.

I think the build dates may show earlier than April 2001 but I don't think any were registered until 04/01?

Ok, not an MC but there's a late 2003 model S54 Roadster on PH.
I haven't seen one of that age before...
