Gents,

Inspection 1 rapidly approaching and I'd appreciate some tips about main dealers I could use and how much you'd paid(I've heard some scary stories). I'm in central Manchester by the way.

Cheers

'Best Value' and 'Dealer' are two things that don't ussually go together.

I have experience of Williams of Manchester and would not reccomend them.

If you decide to go down the indy route there are not many good specialist up North/Manchester way (I have spent many painful hours trauling the net for some), the best ones I have heard reviews of are BMTech Manchester and David Paul Warrington.

Don't want to go indy. Will pay the extra to keep full BMWSH and BM warranty secure.

Have used a well known (and respected by some) indy in Manchester and he was rubbish anyway.

Cheers

Phone 3 or 4 dealers up in your area and ask for prices. You'd be suprised how negotiable servicing costs are with franchised dealers.

IME even the same company (Coopers / inchcape) will have varying prices - I refer to Coopers Colchester and Coopers Ipswich (aprox 15 miles away from each other).

I've tried lots in the area, and finally settled on Williams Bolton. There's none of the usual arsy service staff, and the prices are better than Halliwell Jones. Give them a ring they were always enthsiastic when i dropped my old MC off.

Aways worth asking if there is anything further they can do with the price.

Just had a quote from Williams for an Insp1 which is now rapidly approaching (one green left...). £650. They even said if I could find a better price they'd match it.

They say the tappets need checking but they don't need it overnight....hmmm.

If I can get it for £500 I'd be happy.

Williams Bolton have just moved to a swanky new gaff, they wanted £880 to do an Insp 1 on my Z4MC, I let Haliwell Jones Warrington do it for £650. On the Z3 you should be looking at an age related discount too.

I don't normally rate HJ but they seemed to tick all the boxes this time. Probably because it's a fairly young'un, and not too much effort. They didn't even try and sting me for new brakes.

Have heard good things about David Holmes. Will probably use them for my next service. Have had varied experience with one of the afore mentioned indies. Last time any work was done on car - the front wheels were put on the wrong way round (rotation of tyre tread the wrong way).

I recently used David Holmes bmw in stockport for the first time and had an oil service there.
I thought their service was spot on and was very impressed, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Would be interested in any indy recommendations form you guys around the Manchester region.

Hi C W, I paid £160.00 for an oil service. Not the cheapest (around the correct ball park figure I believe from a BMW dealer) but found their customer service to be excellent.

Not sure whether I will contiue with the BMW dealers from here on, guess it depends on whether I can locate a good indie.

Not used them myself but my M Coupe has been serviced at Derek Woodmans Blackpool all its life in the hands of 4 previous owners prior to me buying it, so they must be doing something good!

I am very nearly touching 100k miles and the engine and engine bay is like new in both appearance and performance and that must be a credit to Derek Woodmans in my opinion.

Can't fault Derek Woodmans for their service, they are always helpful and treat you with respect.

If you can afford the difference between and Indy and a dealer then stick with the dealer.

I've used all 3 of those I mentioned earlier and can't put any of them down. All been good.

Motortune is owned by a cousin of Derek Woodmans, he used to work for them too.

I have changed my mind over david holmes bmw's service department, would no longer recommend them due to their lack of knowledge regarding the m coupe, they are not great with warranty claims either and my car got damaged in their car park :mad5:
