Just had a look on PH classifieds - looks like the Z4MC is selling like hot cakes.

What global recession?

One of the reasons its selling is because BMW recently axed plans to release the new Z4 in an ///M version making the older version more desirable by default, see story http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=19568

The most expensive one on there is £28k and it was registered in June 2008! How much do these deppreciate?
What was their new price? £45k?

JonD, I bought my original Z3MC MY2000 at 18 months old for £25k with hardly any miles on it. Not dissimilar depreciation in my book. I sold it 3 years later for £18k. Cheap motoring I'd say.

I'm also sure not many people actually paid list for these, my 07 was £33k with 2.5k miles on it over 2 years ago. At current prices not bad depreciation for a 6 month old fully warrantied BMW.

Factor in running / fixing your Z3MC paying for extending the warranty etc and you're not a million miles away on cost per anum.

Just my opinion obviously........

I honestly think these will hold thier values for the next year or 2, getting into one now for mid £20k would be a good move.:cheers2:

I'm sure BMW also said they'd never make an ///M variant of the old Z4? But maybe it's more likely they won't do with the new one, in these current times.

Doesn't worry me as I'm not a fan of the new one, too big, heavy and soft looking IMHO, still love the look of the old one, inside and out.

Have kept half an eye on the prices of the Z4MC, I do fancy one at some point, but would need to try one properly. Didn't like the ride on my Z4...Z4M I tried a few weeks ago wasn't much better (is the coupé suspension retuned over the convertible?)

Shunt - how does the Alpina compare with the Z4MC? How about ride and handling? I like those as well, and believe they ditched runflats (tho' didn't make much odds when I did on mine).

But anyhows, at early to mid 20's I reckon the Z4MC is a cracking buy, and yes they all do seem to have been snapped up on PH!

The Alpina was almost as quick as the MC, a more refined tool with plenty of torque and a great exhaust note. The MC is more of a hooligan with the S54 rasp and begs you to wring it's neck.

I don't find the ride too harsh - did an 8 hour stint back from St. Ives last week, even Mrs Shunt didn't complain.

I'm toying with swapping it for an E92 M3, but think in the long run the MC looks better and wouldn't lose anywhere near as much cash.

Still enjoying the CSL???

Anybody know how many RHD Alpina Z4MCs they made?

Looks like you are right. I'm very surprised. The only google results I was for a roadster s. If they had done a Z4MC, it would probably have been impressive.

How does the ride compare for Alpina and Z4MC? (is yours on 18" or CSL's ?)

E92 M3 and Z4MC both seem to be holding their money now, but guess that is true of most sports/prestige cars after the big drops we had a little while ago. But agree the Z4MC is much better looking.

Yes still enjoying the CSL thanks, do consider changing (but nothing unusual there)...suspect will end up keeping it quite a while, really need a windfall/property with land so that I can add some more vehicles to the stable, as opposed to selling it!

The MC is a bit harsher than the Alpina was, but the main failing of the Apina was the lack of slippy diff. An LSD would have transformed the handling, as it was on the limit it was very poor, flashing ESP light or spinning inside rear.

Looked nice though:

The Z4MC is on 19" CSL's, these are much better than the standard 18's far less tramlining:

That would be perfect! My old fella has 11 UNT with a well place fixing screw no points for guessing my surname.

My old M3 was on 'M3 UNT' - it was modified by one of the sparks on site with some black insulation tape. No points for guessing that either.........:lol::lol:
