Hi guys,

Just purchased my M Coupe last week (S50). What a great car. I have used this forum for a few weeks and found it most helpful when i have had any concerns so a big thumbs up to everyone. Tried to post a thread yesterday but to no avail so ill try again.

Does anyone on here use Castrol Semi Sythetic 10w 40 in their Coupes? The reason i ask is that i work for Honda, and hence have an infinite supply from the workshop. We have just changed from Mobil 1, but the general feedback that im getting is that not alot of people use that grade anyway. What are your thoughts with the Castrol? Alternatively, we have a premium grade Castrol which is 0w 30, but im assuming that this is too thin for the BMW engine (great for the VTECS though).

The car was serviced in July 2008 (inspection 2), only 3000 miles ago from Munich Legends and there are three green service lights remaining on the dash so im planning to do a simple oil change which will see me through to the "official" oil change service.

Doe anyone know of any indys in and around the harrow middlesex area?

Thanks in advance.

Danos

Look in latest Technical post 'Vines of Guildford oil choice'.

Phil Crouch, CPC, is an Indy based in Chorley Wood which is as close as you'll get. I think he uses valvoline oils for his servicing.

Lots of good Indy's use Valvoline. Mark at MJF Engineering in Dorking has used that in mine for last 25k miles and the car hasnt missed a beat.

Just for your info he uses:

Valvoline Syn Power 5w-40 (Fully Synthetic) Can get it from Eurocar parts if you wanted some for an interim change.

Cheers

I ues to use a semi-syn 10/40 in my s50 z3mc and e36 m3 evo (same engine) - sure Phil Crouch used the same at a service, and so did BMW .. so I'd say yes.

I use to have access to motorsport quality Castrol 10/40 free of charge, I'd do an oil change every couple of months, just cos I could. If your in the same position I sure it's better to do that than use the 'optimum' oil and only change it every year.

It's nice to drain the oil and it to run out with hints of the origional gold colour rather than black water!
