Loving the new M Coupe with one exception. When I picked it up, and for a couple of days after i didnt struggle with the CDV 'problem', but over the last day or so I seem to be struggling with smooth 1st to 2nd gear changes. It may be becasue im thinking about the gear change every time now as opposed to coming natural after about 17 years of driving. Just wondering if anyone else on here has had a modded CDV valve and how they found it compared to standard. Also wondering where in the midlands (near Leamington) can fit them and how much it costs.
Also wondering if fitting this mod could invalidate the warranty?

Hi..I had a Z4 (softop, old 3.0i) and had the CDV done..didn't have the car that long tho' and it was a couple of years ago...but my comments at the time were:
"
One annoyance has been the clutch, again possibly linked to it's former existence. It bites quite high and I found that it seemed to engage too slowly when pressing on.
That'll be BMW's Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) then, which has now been replaced by a straight through one from Zeckhausen Racing, much improving matters. Changes definitely seem snappier, although that might just be due to greater familiarity with the controls. I do also find the box a little notchy, and the clutch slightly "fluttery" - it just slips a little at low speed - BMW tell me it's due to the dual mass flywheel, and that it's normal...anyhow it's not a big deal.
"
Ref warranty...I'd be very suprised if they noticed it at all, and possibly only if you wanted a new clutch out of them.
If you haven't done so already it could be worth asking on http://www.zroadster.net/forum/portal.php ... I used to look on http://www.zed-cars.eu/ but that one seems to have gone the way of mtorque.co.uk :-(

I had my car 6 months before I modded the CDV so I had plenty of time to get used to it, but I still noticed the difference in the feel of the clutch just backing the car out of the workshop. The 1st to 2nd change is much much better, but it is still possible to get it wrong if your clumsy.
It is also possible to just remove the CDV, I did whilst I modded mine and it all goes back together fine, in fact if you didn't know different it looks like it shouldn't have one in the first place.
Are you near Leamington? I'm not far from there and often pop over, might spot you about.

Heh Dan, yep I live just outside Leamington. Im always on the look out for other MCoupes in the neighbourhood but havent seen one yet. Buy the sound of it, its worth getting the CDV either removed or modded. Out of interest how much did you pay to get it removed.

I did mine myself (I'm a car dealer/mechanic) but it's only 30mins work and can be done by anyone you would trust to change a brake hose.
It sits between the two pipes in this pic
