my handbrake comes up quite high , it works fine just needs too many clicks . can anyone point me in the direction of the adjuster ?. is it under the car or do you adjust it at the handbrake under the gaiter ?. thanks

I just did mine over the weekend. It's actually pretty tricky for the first time, but once you get the feel of whats happening its very straightforward. It definitely helps if you see the mechanism with rear disk removed.

Anyway - adjusting at handbrake lever is just for the cables. Right adjustment is through lug hole at the rear wheels. The procedure is as follows (for each side):
* remove one lug bolt at rear wheel
* now take the flashlight, light the hole, and keep turning the wheel until you see a tight spring and a small sprocket
* it should be around 12 o'clock, thats where it was at mines MY1998
* you wont see the circle side of sprocket, but the other side
* when you see it, you go with long screwdriver, press it in the sprocket side and then move up/down... and repeat... each repetition you hear click from the spring
* on the left wheel the up direction means tightening (more brakes against the rotors), and on the right wheel vice versa
* you basically tighten to max, and then back off for about 5 clicks - the wheel must turn with just small friction

If you want the longer version, here is the TIS document: http://z3.dreamingwell.com/documents/34/10/RA_34_10_014_Adjusting_handbrake.pdf

Oh and one more thing! If you use bolt-on spacers, you will have to remove the wheel and then one lug bolt on the spacers... :)
