  • Cleaning the Alloy Part of the Engine....!

    Hi Guys,

Being a bit of "neurotic" perfectionist - is it possible to clean the alloy part of the engine block and get it shining again??? As you can see from the picture below my engine bay looks pretty good but would be another small detail in the never ending quest...any advice as ever would be gratefully recieved.....

I sat my head in a tub of engine degreaser for a week and it didnt get rid off alot of marks. Inlet and exhaust outlet were still complelty black.

I then got some acetone (they put it in nail vanish remover, we use it to clean metallic samples in the labs) from work which brought all marks/dirt/grime/carbon deposits off with ease. Not to be used on rubber though as it will eat straight through it !

You can see in the picture the head studs havent been cleaned, everything was that colour. Also i havent done the oil filter housing either.

Sorry for crappy iphone image its all i have at work
