  • Hazard switch surround

Does anyone happen to know (well Dave realistically) the part number for the switch surround for the hazard light button?

Mine was damaged but the dealer was not sure what the new part was - the diagrams are E36 generic and show a variety of surrounds. I was previously supplied with 1 387 996 but that turned out to be for the sunroof switch and is too small.

Having spent half an hour in the parts department today looking through loads of screens it appears that this part may have been left off BMW's database!

Rather unhelpfully, there is no part number on the old part. Maybe it comes with the switch???

I don't think mine has a surround just the leather of the console?
the part number that I have for my car is 61311374220 for the switch itself

            Interesting.

Mine was like the one in your picture Dave (though on the other side of course) and similarly damaged.

Since I took it out, just the leather of the console but an appreciable gap which doesn't look right.

            Perhaps the surrounds:

            a) are often broken;
            b) get thrown away; and
            c) are difficult or impossible to source.

Be very interested to see a photo of one that is flush like the window switches.

            Thanks

No surround fitted to this switch. Also checked sales brochure, no surround to the featured cars from pictures.

No part number is therefore to be expected I guess.

Very odd, I have seen other cars with the surround so it does look to be a genuine part,

                    Thanks Dave - brilliant.

That would suggest that the surround was only on the later Coupes. My S50 is a UK supplied August 1999 car. I guess that the surround got introduced a bit before the full facelift.

Did the console change as well? Do the earlier ones have a smaller aperture so that the switch fits more snugly?

                        Here is mine.

I guess once a frame has been in place, it probably always needs one, but seems pretty sure the console is the same either way.

Surround ordered today - back order from Germany. Will it ever turn up?

I do think it looks better with the surround - and presumably BMW thought so as well when they introduced.

Dave - you'd need a carbon fibre one!

Back order normally means 5-10 days
