  • Does anyone here have Bilstein B6's and H&R

If so, how do you find it?

After a change of heart I'm keeping the MC closer to OEM so the KW's got pulled.

I'm booked in for new wishbones, tie rods and various bushes and whatnot and at the moment a toss up between oem shocks and springs all round + H&R ARB's or B6's and H&R 30mm and H&R ARB's.

I want to completely avoid tweaking this and that, spacers, swapping top mounts or anything. Must be a plug and play solution that's just a bit better than my 100k set up and reduces the roll and pitch a bit. It might be that just new OEM and the ARB's would do that eh?

I promise no more suspension talk after this - I've already bored myself to death!!

Replacing your tired, 100k, suspension with anything will feel like night and day!

Personally I would go for the Bilstein with a nice 30mm drop, it shouldn't be too harsh, will be a straight bolt on and will also look far superior.

I really wouldn't be put off with 10mm spacers all round, again with a 30mm drop it will transform the look, in a good way

I replaced all my suspension with OEM parts, dampers, bushes etc around the 150K mark. Made a huge difference as I recall.

I always think this is such a great shot to show what a nice drop and 10mm spacers can do...

My Coupe had the B8 dampers installed with Eibach springs.
          Was very comfortable
Original top mounts and no spacers.

Which KW is currently installed in you Coupe?

Yes that does look great I know. It's just a bit too low for me. If I'd bought the car with the intention of taking that route, I'd be going for it, but just isn't the path I'm on tbh.

As per Ian, I'm very close to going all OEM, as I'm just concerned I'll pick it up with the B6 and H&R's and think 'what have I done.....'. And I can't be doing with ongoing tweaks.

Trying to put in words, I'd like a say 20%+ reduction in roll and diving under breaking, with no more than 20% reduction in overall comfort and a 30mm drop or less(ideally 20).

            Specific eh?

Fabi - I never actually got the KW's(3's) - just got extremely close. The MC is completely standard apart from ACS pipes and short shift, Storm gearstick and yellow stuffs.

The ACS suspension was based on Bilstein kit. I've not found either the ACS sport (coilovers) version that was on the car when I bought it, or the ACS road version that I now have fitted, crashy when driving.

Not sure that'll help with any decision making mind you, heh.

(I still want to investigate getting my ACS coilovers refurbed, with them being a pretty rare option on the cars I suspect)
Not actually in the least bit fat

I see your point. Going to H&R anti rollbars will stiffen it up and maybe giving you what you want, in combination with OEM springs and shocks.

My view is that BMW M designed the MC to be primarily used on the road. This approach clearly compromised ultimate grip etc. that would likely be required for a track/racing car - those that use their cars in this way may wish to modify.

Having driven my car for over 200K miles, I remain convinced that BMW M got the design right first time for road use; the standard specification has never been wanting for me. Every mod has an impact on the original design and longevity (boot cracks?).

As always you pay your money and make your choices.

Well that's nearly where I am Ian.

Currently it's well off ideal(for me), but whether that's down to knackered old suspension, or a combo of that and it's original setup is really hard to pin down.

I certainly don't fancy buying a load of OEM stuff to still feel like I'm driving something as floaty as it does now.

Is there anyone local to you who could let you drive their modded MC?

Good idea Spooks. I remember that my OEM suspension started to "go off" just over the 100K mark and replacing it made a huge difference.
I don't of course know whether that would meet Seca Blue's requirement. Might be worth trying a low mileage/refreshed OEM setup as well if possible.

I found my coupe much more drivable with uprated suspension and anti roll bars , it feels more like it should have left the factory and still has a good ride quality even with 19" wheels .

One thing I disliked about the OEM set up is way the car would lift under acceleration and dive under heavy braking but this has all but gone now.

I have the ACS road kit which uses Bilstein shocks so I would think be similar to the B6 set up.

Yeah you make a good point Dave.

Does anyone live near Colchester, Ipswich, Chelmsford, or in fact Goodwood as I'm there next month?

Dave, the "speedboat lift" on hard acceleration is on of the best features of the car
