  • KW Var 3 Drop link

    Hi Guys

Any idea where I can get one of these pretty quick, as mine has snapped where the ball joint thread bit is :-(

    Cheers

    Hi Manty

KW are closed over the Xmas period and they don't hold stock of anything in the UK.

If you get really stuck I have some Whiteline Drop Links that will be suitable but they are only available in pairs.

I snapped mine while ago too. Managed to get a new one, but I guess they won't last long.

Manty, do you have H&R ARB's?

H&R ARBs destroy the spindle-like OEM drop links because the uprated ARBs are twice as stiff as OEM ARBs.

Yep, got h&R arbs, Imran said the whiteline ones are a bit stronger than the KW ones.

            I hope so :-)

Here's a photo of the Whiteline drop link (as supplied to me by Imran). They don't come with the bolts and I didn't use the ones I was trying in the photo. I bought 10mm stainless bolts from a chandlers and I measured the full width of the rose joint plus the thickness of the point of attachment on the ARB so that I had a full 10mm thick bolt without any part of the thread on the bolt going through both the rose joint and ARB so that there'd be no "slop".

They do look a lot beefier than the OE droplinks, I guess that even if there is no apparent problems with the OE ones, they must be flexing under cornering a bit with the uprated roll bars.

I thought one of mine had gone a few months back as it was knocking loudly, but it had just worked loose.

My KW droplink went and I needed a new one in a day so my mechanic cut standard ones to the right size and welded a sleeve over them. Not had a problem since. The KW ones are known to be rubbish.

The KW drop-links are just 2" shorter versions of the OEM drop-links. IMO, it's the uprated ARBs that kill these things. If you're going to double the stiffness of the ARBs then it stands to reason that you need to double the stiffness of the drop-(weakest)links.
