Indeed you need to know where to put them, but if you've checked power and earth, surely you know which wires they are? Sometimes a meter will tell you that you have a good supply or earth as they draw a very small current, but the connection breaks down under a heavier load, this is the reasoning behind a direct supply!

I only checked the supply was clipped into place and everything was as it should be, I never took any supply readings though?

Maybe this should be my next step before it goes over to Clice Athowes for expensive diagnostics!

You need to actually check them with a meter as you're checking that there isn't a break somewhere in the wire itself, but you should only do this if you know what you're checking, as hooking a meter up can provide an earth and could fire an airbag!!

Having played with it thus far, you can probably begin to understand why diagnostics can get expensive; it's not just the cost of the equipment involved, but the time taken to trace faults!

          Help me!

          Update.

Car went into Clive Athowes bosch service centre today and his diagnostics concluded it was the passenger seat belt pre-tensioner poor resistance.

So, rightly or wrongly I said I would sort it.

I then removed entire seat, checked all clips and wiring, including the infamous connector to the pre-tensioner (removed, checked connections and replaced with a cable tie as factory)

Still a fault light shows seconds after clearing!

So I remove again, take my drivers seat out too and plug the pre-tensioner from this into the passenger side to check to see if I have a dodgy pre tensioner, still showing fault (plus obviously drivers side too as not connected to a pre-tensioner)

This test implies it is not the actual pre-tensioner.

Any ideas, the bosch techs equipment has isolated it to the passenger seat but I have run out of ideas! Except for module replacement but the techs says this is unlikely.

          Please help.

            I have found this online:

            http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/u...%20Circuit.pdf

Apparently a common fix. Anyone tried this? Looks like it might fix my problem?

As mentioned in my first post to you!!! somewhere on here i have seen that some wires need to be extended..as they have become stretched...it will be a dodgy connection! at least you know where it is!!! there is a lot of wires under the seat! it is on here somewhere!

Have you reset the fault code memory between your tests?

                  Yes, reset between tests.

Will order the new modified loom as recommended on my last post/link.

Will let you know, fingers crossed.

Waheey! Finally sorted it by replacing the wiring harness mentioned in my previous post. According to BMW this is such a common fault, hence why they keep these replacement harnesses in stock. £37 for 2 lengths of wire and 3 clips is a joke though!

Best thing about having your seats out is hoovering years of dust and coins etc hidden away underneath them. Really good feeling.

                    Thanks everyone for your advice.

Imola...Really pleased it is sorted!there seems to be a big cloud of Mystique over our little cars..most parts have been sourced from different cars etc...and along with the absolute wealth that comes from long term owners of these cars there really is no genuine reason to panic over some of the quirks associated with ownership,,,most so called problems are easily sorted with regular visits and reading on this great forum!
