  • Rear Wiper

Just a quick query regarding my rear wiper:

The only way I can activate it is by pushing the arm to the right of my steering wheel but this also activates the water jets (which I rarely require) & then once it's going it doesn't stop until I turn off the engine.

Does this all sound about right? Usually I only require a couple of swipes to clear the screen & not an hours worth of wiping across dry glass but I can't find anyway to stop it.

    Am I being retarded.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The rear wiper sometimes does seem to have a mind of its own..push stalk once..jets and wiper activated..i think its on an intermittent 5 swipe program, however a further push..should then make it stop!

Here's how both my M Coupes' rear wipers work/worked.

Push briefly - wipes and remains on intermittent
Push briefly again - cancels intermittent
Push and hold - washes/wipes and does not remain on intermittent

That's how mine works. I thought I had a problem a few months back, I got it checked out by my indy/specialist. He was going to check out the hatch wiring (which I thought was the culprit) and relay, but he checked out the sequence above and it all works OK. I think you just have to remember how many times you have operated the control!!

I meant to post something up about it but since retiring I just don't seem to have time, I'm also in process of putting a journal together which I'll hopefully put up in due course, just need to sort out the pics to go with it.

Thanks to all for your contributions.

I have been operating it correctly, it just seems to do as it pleases!

Get the wiring checked then,it runs in the left hand trunking linking the hatch with the car...

Will do re the wiring thanks. It's going in on Saturday for a new drivers window regulator so I'll mention it then.

                  Thanks again.

Has your window stopped working? How much are they charging for parts and labour if you don't mind me asking?!

It hasn't stopped working, it just wasn't dropping properly when I opened the door.

Luckily for me I have a good friend who is a Senior Technician (mechanic) at a BMW dealership. He gets parts with his staff discount & fits them there at the weekend for me. He did the window regulator & re-gassed the air for £150.

I'll ask him what it should have been & let you know.
