Victoria Milton Keyes (my local stealer) - £767
    Aylesbury - £864
    Luton - £749

so i though id go a bit farther a field....

    Chesterfield - £777
    Newport - £800

    Leicester - £756

The best quote i got was from Damon Hill in Warwick at £627

Damon Hill are ok, so long as you get speaking to the right person. They did some of the rebuild work on mine not so long ago and I had a chat with their specialist prior to the work happening and he was very reassuring. Knows his stuff. However, after a couple of days of tweaking it they were a bit fed up I think and wanted to give it back. I wasn't happy so made them do a proper job and they kept it another night. So you have to be on your guard.

For routine servicing I'd rather use an independent myself (as the warranty expired before I bought the car there is little point in using BMW IMO. A good independent will be able to do all but the more in depth diags on the car and you get a much more personal service from them.

+ it'll cost you about 50% of the dealer price!

RogerE gets his car serviced at Damon Hill I think. They know all about his car and one of the service desk guys raves on about it when I go in there

Just out of interest...get a quote from my local place Hampshire Cars Basingstoke. They are a service only place so no car sales. They may be better priced. I'm very impressed with the work I've had done there so far.

My only concerns where really that the car is still under warranty, and if i get it independantly serivced where they still going to honor it???

Another point was that the stealer said they needed the car for 2 days, so they could check the valve clearnece and tappets from cold??? Do independant services include this??? and is the really necessary on a car that has only done 38K????

Yes Inspection 2 they need it overnight - so can adjust tappets when engine is cold.

Warranty / Indie another can of worms ! If I was paying for warranty I'd probably stump up and let BMW service it as well personally...anyhow I thought that for the extended warranty to be valid it *had* to be serviced by BMW ? (unlike the 3yr manufacturers warranty since the laws changed)

my indy says that as long as the BMW program and all BMW parts are used its fine, but anywork that needs doing will then need to go to a dealer!

bit more hastle but if you have a garage you can trust then its worth it!

I used Damon Hill for 2 years with my 330, no issue there and they are knowledgeable enough. (I went the indy route once the car was above 100k miles)
My S50 is booked in for an oil service with them this week, and they are charging less to do the oil change than my indy!!!
Plus, if they spot anything that needs doing i am sure they'll say (and quote a nice price!!).
Once I have 'settled' into MC ownership i'll probably go back to where lbuchanan (previous owner) had the car serviced (Munich Motors - Wokingham) who, I am told, are good.
The M Coupe ... For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

under 3yr warranty yes, but not so sure after that ?

basically the extended warranty is different from the manufacturers warranty from new, and need to comply to the T+C's which include BMW servicing the car (well thats what I thought / read somewhere anyhow) :?:

That was my understanding as well. The warranty actually states

                    1. Failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service, Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

BMW Service authorised workshop???? does that include independant BM specialists??? or are they taking about only garages that they recommend??

At the end of the day, this is a major service i need and for resale value i think i might just cough up the dough and get that dealer stamp in the book. I wouldnt be so bother if it was just an oil service, you can get that done anywhere, but i think it looks good on the history if you have have your Insp 2 done at a dealer?

I'd be inclined to agree, for an Insp2 and as you still have warranty, go for the Stealer.

Damon Hill should do you fine and that price isn't so bad :)

i would rather see an indy stamp than a dealer one!
with the amount of mistakes that BMW make and things they miss!
i trust my indy they do whatever needs doing and i pick it up!
BMW you get about 4 phone calls loads of agro droping it off and picking it up, yeah they pay for taxi's but still!

Personally i think there are pros and cons to both, £627 for an Insp 2 is very good i think from a stealer, since some of them were quoting way over £800 !!!

In the past i have used both, and i think they both have there place!! but i think it will be dealer this time

Insp2's at a 'reasonably priced' stealer is a good idea, and will be the method I use, for all others I'll use a good indy.

Half the reason that I shied away from my usual indy is the fact he quoted 7.5 litres of oil needed for the service...
...I thought it was only 5.5?!

With regard to service prices; for this oil service I rang Sytners High Wycombe, they quoted £250 (compared to £125 at D/Hill).
The M Coupe ... For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.
