That's forum member thebandit69man's car, it was for sale previously at £32000...just a couple of months ago. Seems odd

That's what can happen at a no reserve auction. Great buy, worth £30k+ all day long even at this time of year/ time of uncertainty.... does show how much mods reduce your market and value when selling.

Unless there was a friend bidding, maybe I'm just a cynic. I did have a bid though:)

Given it was previously listed at £33k, then £34k, and offered on the forum for £32.5k I can't see him letting it go for today's bid (and I would hope not before offering us lot on here a cracking deal first).
The car market has been slow recently and the specialist cars have followed suit, so it's not necessarily an indication of "values" as such, just fewer buyers ready to part with their hard-earned. And due to the small pool of buyers of these cars, an online auction gives only a small window of opportunity for sellers - it can be great if you're the buyer in the right place at the right time with a motivated seller who really wants / needs the funds, but eBay auctions for cars like this rarely achieve "full value". Stating the obvious but a key requirement for any auction item to attain its "full value" is that you need TWO bidders who both know the value and are prepared to bid it on the day. You could auction a Manual V12 Vantage or a Patek Philippe Nautilus and get similarly disappointing results. Doesn't mean their value is any less, just that at that point in time that is the price offered and accepted.

                Nice car and great mileage.

Can't really decide not to let it go if was an open auction, makes ebay a bit pointless if you keep cancelling auctions if you don't get the price you want! Ebay is the place for bargains, not selling cars at full market value.

Nice to be here, cheers Dave.

EBay as has been stated is an auction, there is a fair chance that you won't really get the right figure for the car.

Sometimes due to the limited number of buyer on the market for these cars, they will take longer to sell. Therefore if a quick sale is required then the auction route is the best.

Hats off to the purchaser if it goes through.

Ebay auctions for motors are not binding. Neither buyer or seller has a legal obligation to complete. It may be unethical to let a no reserve auction run to closure and then not complete, but you can.

...and yes, its the worst time to sell our sort of car, just when a lot of us are thinking about tucking them away for winter.

I didn't know that ebay motors auctions are not binding. Interesting - learn something new every day. And yes, "Classic" car prices are more subdued of late...some commentary is advising now is a good time for a contrarian to buy. So maybe tuck two away for winter and sell one in summer (winter is here).

                        I’ve just contacted the buyer.

No surprise he didn’t sell it for the auction price, it’s in his garage.

He has a firm asking price of £34,000 Which still seems reasonable

Does seem reasonable compared to other asking prices at the moment

Quite right too! With next year marking the 20th anniversary of the model and a fresh "season" starting around April / May it will be interesting to see what values do come spring time...
