  • Window no longer drops automatically on door opening

My drivers door window has been behaving more and more erratically. It goes up and down fine on the switch, but the auto-drop function when the door is opened has failed. At first it just got a bit slow to respond, then would jump up and down several times, but now doesn't move at all. Presumably some sensor has failed? Can anyone tell me what controls this function, and where I would locate it (presumably somewhere inside the door)?

    Thanks!

I wonder if it could be something like I just had on mine? There are 2 rear metal guides that should be fixed to the bottom of the drop glass - the rear one had come loose on mine (eventually falling off) so there was play between the glass and the guide. Rather than the motor pulling the drop glass down on opening the door, it was pulling the guide as it should, but with the play in the guide/glass fixing, it was only pulling the guide. Hope that makes sense

No, that's not it, I'm afraid. The glass is still firmly attached to the regulator, and you can hear that it's not even trying to move.

Would have thought the microswitch is in/on the door handle mechanism..

The microswitch is on the door catch.

Sorry, that sounds a bit vague - If you open your drivers door, the catch by the tyre pressure sticker.

          hope this help.

Open the window on the switch, put window right down spray with some silicone spray not wd! down into the window channels leave it for a while and see if this works first before taking it apart! dosnt always work as FT has said but worth a try.

Spot on -it's built into the door striker on the door jamb. The microswitch also controls the courtesy light -explains why this had got a bit random too. I took out the striker, but couldn't separate the microswitch -it seems to be moulded in. However, a good flushing out with contact cleaner and correct operation seems to be restored -thanks everyone who responded!

I did some preventative maintenance on the passenger side one as well -it's probably something worthy of a squirt once a year!
