  • Front splitter touching down?

Does anybody else with the ACS road suspension fitted find that their ACS splitters touch down when corning quickly with the front end loaded, or is this a sign that my suspension is on the way out? I suspect it may be the latter, because it only seems to be when turning left. (Thankfully I bought a low mileage replacement set last year thinking it might be a worthwhile spend sooner or later).

Common for the splitters to touchdown or not?

Just had the MC out for the first time since Christmas. It feels like Christmas all over again!

Do you mean the underside of the ACS flippers scrape on the road when you brake hard?

Indeed Sir. Looking at them, it's only the drivers side that has

I've got ACS flippers and KWV3 suspension. I've just been out to measure for you and the ride height at the front is 645mm and at that height there is at least 125mm ground clearance below the flippers. So, are you sure the suspension is broken so badly that the front of your car drops by about 5 inches on turning left, or could it be that you've scraped the underside of the flippers on kerbs when parking in carparks?

This is what I'm struggling to get my head around mate. I measured the clearance and it's around 130mm and the car feels spot on to drive - no sense of there being anything amiss, yet there's a definite scraping sound on occasion when turning with the front loaded - usually uneven road surfaces or a turn when coming down a hill on to a level road.

The car's just been in for an Inspection 1, and the only thing they mentioned was the fact that one of the front top mounts had a tiny bit of play in it - "nothing to worry about"

I'll have to get the front end up and have a proper look at the suspension and the direction of the scuffs to the underside.

My next question was going to be about Top Mounts. It could be a damaged bearing in there. Alternatively, have you checked rubbing on the arch liner?

A few of us on this forum, once witnessed a front spring break when a MC was parked, even then the bumper was some way off the floor.

I think that broken front spring was on my car in the Zur Burg Hotel Car Park at the NB Ring,
exdos, you bring back a flood of great memories of summer days at the ring.

Check the top of the plastic wheel arch liner as its a common place for wheels to touch

My bet is on the liner too, I've trimmed mine with a craft knife and a dremmel

Yes, no way is it the front splitter! The damper would hit a bumpstop before that would happen I bet. My arch liners are worn through wider offset rims but must admit I've never heard the scraping but imagine it would be audible if you're listening for it.

No, I couldn't really imagine it touching ground but it was the only thing that I could think of, based on the noise it makes and the fact that there are some scratches on the bottom face of the one fitted to the drivers side (none at all on passenger side). Even then it seemed like a long shot with that much clearance.

I'll check the arch liner this weekend and hope to find evidence that it's that that is the problem

                      Thanks guys

Not the snow that's falling pretty heavily at the moment then?!

Do you still have the noise?

I've had the car tucked up in the garage away from all the bloody salt covering the roads at the moment, so haven't driven it since posting (apart from once and it requires pretty hard driving to induce the noise - not really conducive with this time of year, lol).

MOT is due next week so we'll see what that brings about. I suspect it's going to be the arch liners as the guys have suggested.
