  • Advice needed: KWv3 & Replacing Rear Springs???

Ive just started the task of fitting KWv3s to my Z. So far I've taken out all the trim, taken off the drivers side rear shock and disconnected the anti roll bar. I took the car up on the lift at this point (gingerly) expecting the spring to come loose but nothing...

I've been to Halfords to get a spring compressor this morning but it does not fit round the OEM spring or the KW spring.

    2 questions:

    i. How do I take the OEM rear springs out and replace with KW springs?
ii. Is there a fitting guide for Rogue Rear Top Mounts being used with KW v3s anywhere because the way I have them assembled at the moment doesnt seem right...

    Cheers

Dave p has a great diagram regarding fitting of the rogue topmounts and like you, when i fitted mine the whole thing seemed flimsy! however i can assure you that once the top mounts have been fitted...you will be pleased and no more taking the bloody rear trim out!

Usually when the ARB is disconnected you can get it out but if you can get at least one compressor on the spring it should work.

ABS wheel speed sensor mounting bolt

Ok, gave up on the rears for tonight and had a go at the fronts, ONLY to be thwarted (temporarily of course...) once more. Do you actually have to remove the above to change the fronts? The reason I ask is because as you will see from the attached pic, the Allen bolt is corroded and rounded off in the middle. Any ideas???

          Cheers gents

I can't really tell what that is but it's not something I removed to do the fronts

It's the ABS sensor, and no it's removal is not required.

As for rears, if on a ramp, a heavy friend hanging on the trailing arm does the trick.

+1 for that, but not even a heavy friend. Just lean on the hub and it should drop down. If it's stubborn then the weight of the wheel can help you. Unclipping the handbrake cable can also help, just be careful of the white plastic clips they can be fragile after a time and can 'bite'. Also watch the driveshaft does not come too far out of the diff. i had this once and wondered why the car wouldn't move when I went to drive away. If they do come out they just pop back in OK. Watch the gap between the CV joint and the diff is the same after.

Which way do you plan to install the adjuster, top or bottom? IMO top is the best. Here are some pics that might help,

Thanks for the help and for bearnig with me guys...

Ive taken one front shock off and now I am trying to take the front mount off the top of the original shock. Ive wound down the springs with spring compressors but it looks as though I need a special tool to undo the locking nut at the top of the suspension. Is there a way to get the mount off without a special tool/trick to doing this? See pic attached.

                    Cheers

There is a special tool. I used a deep socket with mole grips and a hex key down the middle. My mole grips slipped at first so I ground some flats into the socket with my grinder.

Cheers Si. Here's a pic of the solution to the lack specialty tools = deep 21mm socket which already had flats on it, pipe wrench (because didnt have suitable spanner) and an Allen key (but f8ck did I bend it!!)

Next question: trying to put the mounts back on the KW springs. How do you lock the piston rod in order to tighten locking nut at the top of the mount? (pic attahced)

Another q for exdos: can you link me up to your thread on where to cut holes in the rear trim
