  • "Proper" sidelights

I've never been keen on the look of the side marker sidelights (when lit against the headlights) or the fact they emit slightly less light than a small match. I've often been flashed when driving around near dusk when I think I've got lights on but with just the sidelights they're not always noticeable from dead ahead.

So I decided to move them to the headlights by just unplugging them from the side markers and putting them in the headlights. There is a cast mark on the back of the plastic outer headlamp already and the reflective inner has a hole already there for a sidelight bulb.

I decided to make it a little more different by bridging an extra set of wires and putting another bulb in the centre lamp so all 4 light up on sidelights.

They look quite yellow above and they look quite bright below!!! but htey're just standard 5w capless bulbs so in "real life" the light is kind of inbetween these two.

That looks very cool C W, as the novice that you now I am, is this quite a simple process or am I likely to break something?

I quite like the side marker lights, presumably it would not be very much more difficult to have all six on?

It would be possible but for me 6 lights would be OTT for what are only sidelights. The reason I did this was because I just don't like the bumper sidemarker lights offset against the headlights AND think they don't output enough light as they're so small.

The easiest one to fit is the sidelight to the outer headlamp as the hole is already there (the backing just needs opening up), then you can simply plug the sidelight from the sidemarker into it.

i have LEDs on my side lights. They do help a bit in terms of light output.

          c_w,
I have always thought this about the sidelights, but in the absence of any comments from other owners, I thought that it was just my perception. IMO it is a design fault.

Interesting that there is a rear hole for inserting/fixing(?) a side light within the main headlight frame. I am just about to 'HID kit' my lights so your observation gives me the opportunity to blank off the sidelights altogether and incorporate the sidelights in the main headlight frame.

          Many thanks and perfect timing!

Im with you on this one Alex...Angel Eyes would look much better, without the additional side lights in the head light.

                  BEN,

Having just had my angels fitted as sidelights, I am considering getting my bumper lights smoothed over. Would love to see some pics once there done.

                        Nice one Alex,

That looks miles better. Always thought they made the car look a little dated.

I agree, but wasn't considering fitting those and the main reason was that the bumper sidelights don't do much.

Well yes, but now I have the added benefit that the "odd" side markers aren't lit too!
