  • Just bought a Becker - a couple of questions

as title, bought a Becker Indianapolis 7920 off ebay. Should hopefully get it delivered by the end of the week. I've currently got the basic BMW system in a 99 S50 with no auto changer or HK amp, is it just a case plug in and play???

Just phoned the place where I normally get installs done and they seemed very reluctant...firstly because I didn't buy it from there (not a problem when I last used them a couple of years ago) but also because they mentioned something about amps built into the speakers or something and said install could be difficult....??

Are they talking bollocks, or is the install more complicated then plug in and play?!? I'm pretty clueless on audio tech stuff so apologies for vagueness...

If you've got a non Harmon Kardon setup then its easy. Just buy the ISO wiring adaptor to match the head unit to the loom. You may want to disable the amp in the passengers footwell (attached to the back of the speaker). Have a look for a posting by Si Wilson on ZRoadster where he shows how to bypass this amp. I'm not sure its absolutely necessary to do this but will probably result in better sound if you make the effort.

Thanks, so easy then - how much would I be looking at for the ISO wiring adaptor? I assume these are commonly available?? Any ideas on the particular one I would need...?

I'm taking the car to the installer to have a look later in the week, so he shouldn't have any problems with the install.....thanks again

It's been fitted for weeks now and it was just great with ipod connection and the sat nav was surprisely good meaning i didn't have to have a chavy tom tom stuck on the windscreen. But when switched on the screen sometimes goes blank with all the functions still working. Pressing the CD eject button seems to cure it temporarily before the screen goes blank again.

Anyone else had this problem or heard of problems like this with a Becker Indianapolis or Grand Prix?? or am I just unlucky?!?

It's under warranty, but it's still a pain.........

I have found the same on my Grand Prix, a bit of a pain, it seems like loose wiring and a push on the front seems to fix it.
