  • Rear wiper leaking

    Hi All,

My rear wiper has been leaking washer fluid into the boot over the last few weeks. Finally got around to pulling it all to pieces (thanks for the brute force advice on removing the trim!) only to discover the fluid seems to be coming from inside the motor assembly. The tubes leading up to the motor all seem fine and the tube thats visible on the wiper looks good. The wash still works but a considerable amount of juice escapes.

Anyone had this before or any suggestions? I assume it must be a seal gone somewhere but will I need to replace the whole wiper assembly?? Hmmmm...

    Thanks!

it needs a new valve on the external section of pipe, i believe it was a recall from BMW or about £5 plus fitting

Thanks Ben, I remember seeing a few posts about this and it leaking under heavy acceleration - is this the same thing?

          This the fix . . . .

          Service Information December 2000
General Electrical Systems 61 15 00 Service Engineering

          SUBJECT
Washer Fluid Bleeds out of Rear Washer Nozzle

          MODEL
          Z3 coupe

          SITUATION
Some Z3 coupe owners may complain of the washer fluid leaking out of the rear window arm and running onto the paintwork. Another possible complaint is that it takes too long to get washer fluid pumped up to the nozzle when using the rear window washer.

          CAUSE
There is a low pressure area created in the rear of the car as it is driven, which can draw the washer fluid out of the rear washer supply line.

          CORRECTION
IN CASE OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINT, a check valve, part number 61 68 8 391 402, can be installed in the supply line of the motor to hold the fluid in the line.

          WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

I had this and presented the dealer with above information last year.
They had no idea what I was on about and couldn't locate that part.

They did however fix it somehow(was under warranty at the time).
