  • z3m vs z4m depreciation

I have been following the prices of the z4's quite recently and found the cheapest at £21000, which is from hexagon! Which i am quite sure are known for having premium prices...

Now s54's are still holding prices at around 20ish grand, which just shows the value of cars that are actually made today! (and probably due to the credit crunch, and i hope no one thought thats was a cereal kellogs had released!)

Does make me that little bit more happy that i have "invested" in this car

Values of anything are quite distorted at the moment too.

I tried a Z4MCoupe as soon as they were available. Compared to the Z3M it is no quicker, has vague steering, a drab, boring cabin and is longer and wider. The looks are a matter of taste. The ZM3 is simply more fun to drive, nicer to be in, rarer and more visually striking - so long term this will be reflected in the market value. Even Ferraris are affected by new models that do not advance the breed and they are usually bought by posers rather than drivers. Look at the prices for the 348 compared to the older 328, for example. Long term the Z3MC will hold its value and become a classic. If it doesn't, I don't really care 'cos my missus will never sell hers anyway and I really enjoy the occasional time I get to drive it!

As I have said before, I bought my MY2000 Z3MC @ 18 months old for around £25k. Considering the current climate, there is no difference between prices of Z3MC then and Z4MC's now.

I understand you all like to romance on about rarity etc, but when I bought mine, there were 4 in Halliwell Jones in Warrington.

They will continue to shed money for a long time, and will only ever increase in price if you stop using it and wrap it in cling film. What's the point in that unless you like to trailer it to weekend shows.

A second car you keep for fun and have to pay half the amount of tax for may well be more appealing in 20 years time Steve.

Cars aren't the best thing to buying at the moment that is for sure.

Who says the tax will be the same then ? It will probably be by the mile by then.

Thats why i will never sell my old blade. it'll be tax free fun soon enough.

currently prices are nuts, £25k for an M5 really cheap new M3's. RS4's are cheap as chips too. When it's time to swap though I might just put the MC in the back of the garage and get something I can put miles on.

It just goes to show how much people were relying on credit to purchase things rather than actually having the money.

Really ? That is a bit daft but I guess he isn't on his own. The whole Beeny, Phil and Kirsty type brainwashing with free money is going to mean there's a whole load more correction to come. Will be interesting to see what the ftse does tomorrow....

I sold a E36 328i before I got the MC, the chap who brought it needed about £8k of finance on it due to having negative equity on his old car. I was talking to him a year later and he told me he had just paid off the finance on it by re mortgaging. I dread to think what the car is going to cost him by the time it's done and dusted.
