  • Recommendations for bodyshop near Bucks

The time has come (after 117,000 miles) to address some of the rust and bodywork issues on my coupe. I have had advisories for the past couple of years for rust on the jacking points, and the sill covers and rear wings have rust. There are also a few other areas needing attention (mirror bases, small area on the bonnet etc) which makes me think that I might as well go for a full respray.

So I am looking to get done:

    - Underside of chassis cleaned up and rust-treated
    - Both sill covers and rear panels replaced
    - Full respray

I went to my local bodyshop today - apparently he used to do resprays for Knight's garage and has sprayed a silver coupe for Russell previously. He quoted around £5-6k for the above, not including the cost of the panels. Looks like these will come to around £1k from a dealer.

Does this seem reasonable? Or does anyone have any recommendations for trusted bodyshops around bucks or the surrounding area (I am in High Wycombe).

    Thanks!

If you don't mind a trip out of your area, then I can heartily recommend Sandydown Bodyworks in Hampshire. Mine is currently in there & they have been respraying doors, front & rear wings, tailgate, N/S wing mirror, front bumper & sill covers - plus cleaning up the sills themselves and waxoyling everywhere. The only bits they're not doing is roof, bonnet & rear bumper.

Sandydown look after a lot of exotic metal - when I was in there last week to check on progress there was a 1974 Porsche 911 in, a 60's alfa and a mark 1 escort Mexico.

I have been using them for years and their standard of workmanship is second to none and they oven cure the paint which gives it a much stronger finish than those that use IR or UV to cure.

Hopefully I should collect tomorrow but the total estimate was around the £1800-£2000 including new sill covers & rubbers as needed. OK not as complete as a full respray but £5-6k strikes me as expensive.
I have put WIP pictures on my journal (which you can link from my signature) and I will of course put updates on there when it's back.

There is of course Redish Motorsport in Bristol that have a strong reputation for taking care of chassis rust on these cars...

Thanks. Sandy down is actually quite close to my folks in Basingstoke, so I might take a look.
