Ah i see, I would definitely say the rear will clear due to the deep hub disc, the fron also shouldn't cause any problems as it's fairly standard sliding caliper setup.

Re temp gauge being off-centre; if it's on the cold side of centre then that is normal, especially at this time of year. They don't tend to sit in the dead middle.

Well the battery is the real source of power for the car, so there is no reason you can't connect direct to the terminals to jump start the battery. The terminals under the bonnet just make it easier.
