  • Panel Gap Advise - Z3M

    Dear all

As you may know from my thread I've been sorting out my rust issue, and as part of this fitted new OEM sill covers and front wing panels, which raised 2 noob questions.

    1. On the Sill trim, do you adjust it side to side based on the gap it leaves to the 1/4 panel, or to the furthest point forward or back as it rocks on the fixing bolt if that makes sense?

    2. When fixing the OEM wing, I can not get the edge to be flush with the door, the door is in the correct place.

The only way I can see is to bend the wing mount bracket on the body to be flatter?

Is there a trick I'm missing?

This tab is quite rigid, and can not move much more to make the difference.

    cheers in advance

Don't know if they will help but there are some pictures in my journal taken when I replaced my right side sill,

cheers, I guess on the sills you just gauge what looks best by eye, and again on the wing, perhaps the, when they are the first, fitted they receive a bit of extra persuasion before they are painted, I should have fitted them pre-paint, but you live and learn.

If it’s any consolation, some of the panel gaps on the MC were often a little hit or miss out of the factory I think

Panel gaps are large by modern standards but should all be even and around 5mm which is how they were adjusted from the factory. Front bumper appears to be the most difficult to get even but the wings and sills should be straight forward.

There is lots of adjustment on the front wings via the top fixings in the bonnet area but don't think this will help bring the bottom in?

Missing my bonnet inspections, maybe I could offer the service online?......

The gaps are about 5mm to the ruler so thats are all good. I'm aware about the general issues with the alignments, from previous posts and the years of looking at them.

I think the win bar needs squashing for a nontechnical solution, but as its painted thats not ideal, so I might give the mount a love tap, generally, all the gaps are in tolerance, and as I'm doing it thats acceptable, and better than the better fitting rust offerings.

                      PS:

                        I found a technical solution...

                        My solution...

That is good enough for me.

                        Cheers.

Cheers lol. The other side has settled, just needed some gentle persuasion by hand to follow the profile of the door, but happy enough.

                              Bonnet Gap Now closed up.

                              Dear all another Newb question.

Since refitting my front arch trims, bolting it all together seem to have pulled the bumper up the bonnet.

Did I miss a trick, or do I need to now adjust the bonnet via the stops to align this.

It all fitted fine before, though on one side I do have a new liner.

It's the same on both sides.

                              Any guidance would be appreciated.

                              cheers

                              J.
