Having had 20 Plus classic BMWs, they all had OEM head units. The best way to get a good BMW sound is to buy an E92 (for a spare obvs) lol.

It’s a Chinese special add on from eBay.
Supports handsfree calling, music streaming and also can play music via 3.5mm jack, usb & SD card though I only use the Bluetooth functions.

Have to say it seems to work really well.

This is the one I bought:

My diff was looking quite crusty.

So as it was a nice day I spent a couple of hours with a wire drill bit, wire brush, wire wool and some leftover hammerite in the shed. Looks a lot nicer now!

Thanks it’s not the neatest job close up but it’s there to protect rather than win any concourse awards!
If ever it comes off the car I’ll aim to do a more thorough job on it.

A lot to be said for keeping rust at bay and keeping on top of this, and there is a place for good usable examples of cars, such as my now, its never going to be a show car, but I want to keep it looking presentable.

Just a small update today - and not one for the purists... but I wasn't too keen with the cheap black plastic headlamp switch and wondered why BMW had chosen not to fit the same chrome switch that went in some of the top Z3 Roadster models (maybe it was a date of manufacture thing?).

Anyway, 5 mins with an 8mm spanner this morning and this is the effect - looks a lot more classy to my eyes and fits in better with the other chrome accents dotted around the dashboard.

I found a dension ice link plus lurking in the back of the dash, connected to the OEM unit CD interact connector, accepted an iPod 4 connection cable, and that will do, at least more choice than a single cd player.

I thought about Bluetooth, then remembered I don't really want to handsfree chat in the car when driving, and though Spotify is good, I enjoy chatting to my passengers, or listening to the radio as some background noise if needed.

So that's an option possibly still.

Just to update on the radio front - I have managed to get a Rover version of the same CD43. Fortunately not badged as Rover so it's slotted into the dash and now lights up the same colour as everything else.

Seems if you buy the genuine BMW version (even if it's not got the BMW logo on the front) the cost is £250-300+ for one of these radios, but if you buy the Rover one (which also often doesn't have a logo on the front and looks EXACTLY the same - but just has Rover printed on the sticker on the side of the unit) then it's half the price!

Even if you buy one with a Rover logo on the front, an "M" wheel badge would cover it nicely...

As I've furloughed one of my other cars, I've been using the MC as my "essential shopping" car the last few weeks - and may have been (ahem) taking the "long" route to the supermarket, or perhaps choosing supermarkets that are a little further from home than I'd normally use....

Anyway, I've realised the AC is not functioning - so that'll need to be looked at - hoping it's just in need of a re-gas but experience tells me that's rarely the case and it'll be leaking somewhere....

In other news, I also hit a pheasant a couple of weeks ago which has damaged the paint on the front bumper and dislodged the brake vent duct (the torso of the pheasant is now wedged behind it but I can't reach in to remove it).

So a few £££ to be spent once the lockdown eases - a trip to the AC specialist & a trip to the bodyshop - the latter was always planned anyway to attend to some brown areas on the sill covers (and to check the condition of the sills behind) and a scab on the tailgate...

I've also ordered up a bit of foam which I'll shape to fill the void between my spare wheel in the boot to level the floor up. The boot mat I have means I can take the dog out with me but she's forever slipping down into the void next to the wheel - so creating a sort of "false floor" will make it nicer for her back there!

I think I have seen them fitted with a small BMW roundel which looks better than the M badge ?

Today I met a nice chap called James who has a lovely MC in virtually the same spec as me - right down to the colour of the wheels! Though he has a much cleaner example & some very nice ACS parts on his...

Anyway, I was there to buy his old Hamman spoiler as the lack of a spoiler had always bothered me - it just looks a bit "unfinished" with the non-painted plastic top on the tailgate.

                              So here's a "before" picture:

And here's the "after" which looks a lot more "finished" to my eyes:

I guess I should clean it now!

And here's a few photos of the two sisters together!
