  • Heated seat elements - replacement

Haven't noticed any posts on this topic. Did a search but nothing turned up.

My passenger seat the heating elements don't work, driver's seat the seat cushion heats up but not the back rest. I use the car all year round and I really miss this the comfort of having the seats heated, especially since my wife's Golf has a winter pack option with wonderful heated seats.

The electrics have been checked and there is power to the seat elements.

I got the lad who does the work on the car to check out new elements - wait for it - £825 per seat!!!! You have to buy new leather cover as the elements are sewn in. The leather on the car is fine so I don't really want to go down that route.

Looked at a couple of sites for replacement elements which would work out considerably cheaper and more durable. Probably need to get upholsterer to remove covers and fit new elements.

Anyone an information on having this work carried out?

Anyone got some spare all black leather heated seats?

Yes, and putting that part no. in Cooper's site throws up £60-odd for the element...

        Thanks for the replies.

Further investigation needed for sure. Must admit I hadn't checked if elements were available separately.

I'm also going to contact a local car upholstery specialist to see if they have done this sort of work before.

That's an interesting idea, do you have any more info (e.g. do the connectors match)? I'd fit them in my recaros...

Probably not but it will only be 2 wires
Easy to get plugs from rs components

Thanks for that Martin, will be one of the options I'll look at.
Have to sort out getting the rocker cover to you at some point.

That is not always the case, e.g. the universal ones off the ebay can't be fitted to oem heating controls even with oem connectors... (there is some electrical incompatibility of the heating elements used)

Have you seen or heard of someone with the landrover ones fitted on the stock controls? Cause if this works would be a nice alternative..

I've fitted Landrover ones to a Landrover before
Fitted them via a switch and a relay
I'd imagine you could used the standard switch via a timed relay
The relay would take the load off the switch and the timer would switch it off if you forget.
S54/s50 just use switches. No can bus like later cars so it would be ok
( I'm not an auto electrician by the way)
