Not such a bad thing IMO. I had some Conti Sport Contact a while back and they were dead rubber after only 4-5 years. Great tyres to begin with and still some good tread, but they went hard and had unpredictable grip.

With the greatest of respect, if you've done 4500 miles in 7 years I can't see you jumping in it and raping it to the limits of adhesion very often. Just roll them on until you can see visual damage like cracks etc.
If however you are, then put a new set on it. They are the only think keeping you, your valued cargo and your increasingly valuable pride and joy on the blacktop. Tyres are a no brainer. If in doubt - replace them.
