  • Rear brakes - backing plate replacement

    Hi all,

my n/s rear brake has started to make an awful metallic/grating sound, much like it did on the drivers side when the handbrake 'retaining pin', item No7 on here came loose...

Im guessing its the same thing but on the n/s now but the question is, is the backing plate replaceable without dismantling too much of the rear end?

Im assuming the plate it goes into is item No4 on here...

and it goes rusty and the pin pulls through.

    Cheers
    Ian

I can confirm its a hub-out job, so you'll need a new wheel bearing. Pretty easy to do, but you need a press to get bearings out/in.

        Cheers guys

One of those jobs that the time/other parts needed are far more expensive than the bit that actually needs replacing!

If the backplates aren't to bad you could try this method of repair without having to replace the complete backplate,

Cheers for that! I think that's essentially how the drivers side got repaired last time, but maybe not with quite the finesse as it was more of a big washer!

It was done in a hurry though to get the car to Silverstone one year I seem to recall......ive not had a problem since though!
