They are talking about the pilot super sports which is different to the pilot sport series. It's kind of a road biased semi slick, hence the relatively poor wet performance.

Ps4 is supposed to be very good, a much more focused tyre than the ps3, and appears to have made the PSS a bit redundant.

After a bit more digging I think I got confused between Super Sports and Pilot Sport 4. After reading up about the latter, I've booked in for 4 new ones on Saturday morning

And the cheapest of all places......Kwik Fit !!

Good call, better than £140 for rears?

I did have PS3's all round but needed to change the rears a couple of weeks ago (the rears always wear first right?! ) so gave Camskill a call to discuss the differences between PS3's and PS4's. They, as c_w also mentioned said that the PS4's are a step up from the PS3's, and that the PS3's will eventually be phased out. Camskill have always been straight talking and easy to deal with. I now have 2 PS4's on the rear, £238.78 incl delivery, then £20 all in to change over and balance them.

Yes, its evolution. PS2s replaced the original, PS3s the 2s, now the 4s will replace the 3s. Good to hear favourable comments on the 4s.

Now add into the mix the new Pilot Sport 4 S, although the smallest is a 19".

Not with the Pilot Sport series, the PS3 went more normal road tyre and people were trying to source the older PS2 when production stopped. I can understand Michelin doing this as with the PS3 coming out they also brought out the Pilot Super Sports, but they seem to have made things a bit confusing by bringing the Pilot Sports back to more focussed/ultra high performance segment with the PS4.

The History

Before we get to the driving details, it's worth understanding how the Pilot Sport 4 is being positioned. The Pilot Sport 3 wasn't the direct successor to the Pilot Sport 2, that was actually replaced by the Pilot Super Sport, but instead the Pilot Sport 3 actually slotted in between the Pilot Exalto 2 and Pilot Super Sport, aiming more at the hot hatch market, and moving the balance towards wet grip and comfort.

All I know from experience is that every 4/5 years the PS (version?) number increases.

Had them fitted this morning but have probably only done ~10 miles in traffic and/or heavy rain, so not pushed on at all yet. First noticeable difference is they aren't anywhere near as crashy as the Falkens that were on before.

Used to say it takes a 100 miles or so to bed in tyres. Maybe modern compounds are different, but I still do this.
