  • Brake caliper refurb - where and what to pay?

I've never been particularly superstitious, however, today has not been good.

The missus gets an overheating warning light in the touring this AM and it transpires the water pump is kaput.

I jump in the coupe to go and get her following being recovered to a BMW specialist and the coupe near side brake seizes on.

Can anyone recommend a place to have the caliper a refurbed and how much this would likely be? Whilst the car is in they may as well do both front caliper a.

What next . . . well we came home to find the washing machine has broken. Happy 2016!!!!

I used Bigg Red a few years ago, good service & they still look good today. Sorry can't remember how much.

      Ewan, thanks.

      Thanks Ewan.

I contacted BiggRed today and they quoted £139.00 to refurbish both front clippers. The refurb includes; shot blasting, repainting in heat resistant toughened paint (colour of my choice), replacement of pistons/seals and stress testing on the bench.

If I wanted it painted with a rattle can I could get both done for £119.00. Electro plated finish (OEM spec allegedly) £129.00.

      Add £10.00 for couriering.

BiggRed seams to get good feedback on most forums.

The BMW Indy I'm using could get me one Pagid replacement caliper for £130.00 plus VAT. I figured it was a no brainier to have both refurbed for the price of one replacement.

£139 is a very good price for both sides. I refurbished some a year ago and they cost me nearly £40 per side for the parts alone.

I was quoted £114.00 from brakecaliper specialists but decided to go with Biggred based on the amount of positive feedback.

          Agree though, £139.00 seems reasonable.
