Personally, I don't see it as a waste, because these cars are still in existence as excellent examples. The shame that I see is that they've not been snapped up and in private ownership.

I recently had my MC MOT'd and discovered that I've done less than 300miles in it last year! I don't SORN it and I give it a reasonably regular blast throughout the year on my test route but I've chosen to try to keep the mileage on it down. I do wonder if that's a waste though ?????

I did over 12k miles in it during my first year of ownership when I bought it in 2003 and you couldn't keep me out of it, but have progressively driven less miles in it each year thereafter.

I see two "drivers cars" sat in a London showroom as a waste because these cars are not being owned and or driven by a enthusiast,

I would hope that owners who do very little miles in their M Coupes still get enjoyment out of ownership as I know I do.

I think a lot of this is down to the roads being a lot different to a few years ago, when I first had mine we used to meet up and have a real blast around some awesome roads, I bet you would struggle to do that these days.
So I suppose unless you get out on a track or use it as an everyday car then mileage will be fairly minimal, as you say, it can feel a bit of a waste sometimes.

          Steve,

Those were the very BEST days I had with my MC, and it's a shame that they've gone!

I don't do many miles in mine, but still enjoy owning and using it, like today when the roads were dry.
On the subject of rarity, I anticipate the market for The coupe will improve over the year, they are very scarce. I've just read an article on SL "Pagodas" which are fetching good money ( albeit different vehicles to ours). They're described in the article as "having a good survival rate, but rarer than you think"...and there were 48,912 W113's built!

The question you have to ask yourself I suppose is, if you had a spare 20k, and you wanted some enjoyment out of your investment then you could do a lot worse than buying something like this, especially at the present time and the interest rates that are available for your money.
You're not going to make a killing overnight, but then again with 20K are you going to make a killing elsewhere very quickly, and have fun doing it.
I've just checked my paperwork and its been sitting in their showroom for nearly 2 years, so I'm sure there's a deal to be had, but I do also know that the garage owner is a bit of a collector as well, so maybe he looks at it as an investment as well.
And you are right when you say they are rare, in numbers produced they are amongst the lowest, so it stands to reason that in years to come they will be sought after, it just depends on how many years, I suppose the only thing against them becoming iconic is the fact that they haven't really got any racing pedigree behind them like so many other collectable cars.
I'm off to count my pennies.

Thought you'd have spent all your pennies in fuel in your X5

That's long gone, besides it was LPG, so just a tad more affordable.
I'm now driving around in a yobbos car, a scooby.

For me it's more appealing without the sunroof, not only looks better but must be slightly lighter up top too.

                    • Its not how far you go but how much you enjoy the journey.

I told myself this earlier as I taxed my gsxr which still has just over 2000 miles on it.
