  • Would you change the color of an S54 Coupe?

    Hi guys,

    Just a question: would you change the color fo your S54 M coupe?
    Currently black sapphire. This is mi third black car and I hate them...when you wash them they are immediately dirty again.


    Pros:
    Get the color I want (Laguna seca or Stahl grau)

    Cons:
    Cost of the car
    Not matching numbers anymore

    Do you think it would be a good idea?
    I explored vinyls but since I don't want a mat car and metallic vinyl don't look good...

    If I owned an M Coupe in Evergreen, Dakar Yellow or Laguna Seca Blue then I'd change the colour - but only by changing the whole car. I wouldn't be up for a repaint in a different colour as I like originality, but hey that's just me.

      Never!

      1. It's impossible to get to the oem level of quality paint if you're changing color, unless you tear everything apart and have a really, really good workshop. Only sensible with oldtimers...

      2. Not-original color will lower the car's value, especially with a rare car such as S54 MC.

        also, if you got a wrap that matched LSB, it would be a good idea, as its a non metallic colour anyway

              bad idea.

              sell the car and buy one in the colour you like.

              i had my coupe painted a couple of years ago (same colour) and never again. it's a world of pain and expense.

                Dont do it!!!
                Check out the s50 thats up for sale recently thats been resprayed in lsb.
                I love lsb as an oem colour but to me that s50 looks shit!!!
                Dunno why just dont look right and its not the 2.8 bits all over it either.

                    White can look good so that might be the only option as a wrap.

                    LSB divides opinion, I think it works really well on the E46 M3 but just doesn't on the M Coupe.

                      agreed LSB my favorite Bm colour of all time but doesn't look the best on an MC although when the suns out BING awesome

                      i wouldn't paint a car a different colour

                      id wrap it either bright yellow or green mmmm

                          thanks a lot for your answers!!

                          I was thinking of it since my car has 85k km ans still original paint (lots of cratches and rock chips on the bonnet), basically I have to repaint almost the whole car.

                          I was exploring wrapping but hey don't offer taylor made colors, just existing colors and no one matches LSB or steel gray.

                            If you've stone chips on the bonnet, then either touch them in or just get the bits that are needed painted. You'd be surprised at what a good polish could do to the rest of the panels.

                            Be aware that any post-factory paint will never be quite as hard and durable as that which comes out of the factory. So only paint the panels you need, as the repainted ones will damage slightly more easily.

                            This is just a function of the baking process and that due to economies of scale, even the best paint shops can't quite deliver the same paint job that was done at the factory.
